This is a wonderful place to visit - special gardens and lovely house tour. It's convenient for those who also want to spend some time in the town of Lenox and Pittsfield.

When we saw the Pet Cemetary we understood why dog walking was welcomed on the Grounds. We were there opening weekend (last weekend) with our Dog and enjoy our outdoor visit (FREE!) Sorry to read the Tour wasn't up to snuff; we can't comment. The day was lovely, the grounds might have been partially closed off (Guessing...bridge roped off); there...

We are so glad you enjoyed your visit to The Mount! Access to the grounds is indeed free during the winter and off-season, but from May through October when the entire Mount property is open, guests are asked to purchase a $12 grounds pass (which also allows access to the cafe, bookstore, and a special outdoor SculptureNow exhibit beginning in...

You can read all about Edith Wharton's mansion and grounds on line and get a flavor of what this palatial residence is all about. When you go, take the tour! The tour guides are excellent and know the Mount as well as Edith Wharton's writings. They are exceptionally well versed and we learned that no two tours are exactly alike....

I read one of Edith Wharton's novels before we toured The Mount, so I had a feeling and a little understanding about the author. The grounds are quite lovely and the home is large but comfortable. Wharton designed the layout. I particularly liked the the sitting room, which is adjacent to the master bedroom. The dining room has a lot...

I recommend the Mount especially for the Gardens, which are beautiful in the summer. A great place to relax and take pictures. The house is also fascinating, although it retains few if any of Edith Wharton's original furnishings. Definitely worth visiting for a taste of splendor during the Berkshires' golden age.
Love the gardens (managed by my sister-in-law, by the way!) and the woodland trail. The inside is a fascinating glimpse into how the wealthy lived in the last century.
I didn't know too much about Edith Wharton but after touring her estate, which she designed. I came to admire this new age woman and look forward to reading 2 of her works: The Age of Innocence and Edith Frome. Tour guides were very helpful. Make sure you watch the movie at the start of the tour. Although all the...

It was worth buying the pass to see several different sites, including the Mount. I didn't know who Edith Wharton was, so it was educational. I was disappointed, however, that they didn't tell me at the entrance that I could pay a little extra and go on a guided tour. I enjoyed my visit here, but liked going to the...

This was Edith Wharton's home that she herself designed. She was the first woman to win the Pulitzer Prize for literature. The home and grounds are lovely and well worth the visit. The tour was informative, the guide was excellent, and the gift shop was worth a look, too.
We felt this tour was well worth the price. The guide was a wealth of knowledge. We were not familar with Edith Wharton so it was all new information for us. The house is very interesting. The thoughts behind its construction made it all the more interesting. The Gardens were a great walk and the two disciplines, Italian and English,...
