I walk in Sapsucker Woods year-round. It's soft underfoot and easy on your body and there's a lot to see and appreciate on my walks. The Canadian geese who are protecting their young may hiss at you, but that only happens for a short period each year. It's a lovely place - highly recommended!
I was visiting a friend who lives an hour and fifteen minutes away from Ithaca. I was interested in a nice walk and listening to birds. Her neighbor suggested the Sapsucker Woods. A wonderful surprise! The trails and terrific (soft beds), lots of birds, wonderful sounds, nice places to sit, nice gift shop, pretty building (welcome center). I can't wait...

Lovely walks and trails. Very family friendly. Interesting displays when the center is open. Look for the heron nest with the web cam in spring and summer.
This is a lovely bird sanctuary that houses the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. You can sit in comfortable chairs and stare out at the preserve, watching beautiful birds come and go; there's a nice gift shop, guided walks, etc. It is supremely quiet, like a nature chapel. Great place!
I think it is one of those great undiscovered places outside of Ithaca. As it is run by the Ornithology Dept it is a first class place with lots of interesting information about birds. We had a great deal of fun just walking the paths and seeing what we could see in a season when things aren't quite back to...

Even if you aren't a "birder", this is a spot not to miss. Great exhibition, wonderful architecture of the building, videos, art show, shop and birds enjoying a snack right outside the seating area. Fabulous!
Lots of scientists come around this place to study birds.Birds in the main thing in this place.I loved the view.I saw a woodpecker,a blue jay,and many more things. They have a trail that you can follow. This is one lovely place if you're a bird lover.
I work part-time nearby, and often meet people waiting between flights at Ithaca Airport and always tell them to skip shopping and instead drive or hop a cab to the Ornithology lab exhibit and Sapsucker Woods. I have brought young and old family members. If someone doesn't want to walka trail, there is indoor birdwatching, a short animated presentation in...

The Ornithological Lab of Cornell University is here at Sapsucker Woods. There are miles of hiking trails through wooded areas, indoor bird-watching area, and lots of displays. Original (& historical) bird-themed art is displayed in a gallery area on the 2nd floor. Not a great weather day when we were there, but there is plenty inside to keep you entertained...
