This is possibly one of the best short hikes you can take. The scenery hiking back through the gorge is beautiful, but it is definitely challenging for small children or older people. The log jam is somewhat difficult to traverse, but it can be done with children. There is no choice, but to get wet in the cold water if... More

The signs tell you to not cross the giant logjam because it is dangerous. It is dangerous, especially with small children. However, this is the best way to experience the gorge. Ancient lava tubes are still visible and the water is crystal clear. The water is very cold...be prepared for that! There is a nice strain of cutthroat trout in... More

This is one of the most beautiful locations in the Columbia River Gorge. Bring swimwear to get to the waterfall at the end (or you could try scaling the rocks for a challenge - it can be done!).

This gorge was hard to reach, you can't get to the falls themselves unless you're willing to wade/swim through the water and climb over numerous rocks, logs, and obstacles. That being said, it is DEFINITELY worth it! Even if you can't climb up the gorge, the view from the road/trail is still breathtaking. This isn't one of the most visited... More

This is one of earth's spectacular places, and you can get to it very easily from Portland. However, if you want to hike up the gorge, here is some advice: 1) Plan to go in the mid-morning on a warm/hot day in the summer. The water is cold, as it is snowpack runoff from Mt. Hood. Plan to be there... More

It is a lovely place. Especially on a hot day. Cool and shady spot. Climb on the logs at the back & ee the lake that fromed behind, but be careful with young kids that they don't skid off wet logs get hurt. There is a nice walk which starts 0.5 mile furher west at Horsetail falls - hike up,... More

People DO get hurt on this trek. Also, not getting wet is really really hard to do. It is a challenge. But it is also very beautiful.

A quiet stroll to appreciate the beauty of this area is easy to get to via auto, and partake in. It is secluded and not over fun with tourists.

This Gorge within the Columbia Gorge is a true gem! Deep inside the Basalt Lava of the Columbia Plateau, which is 3 miles thick near Yakima, Wa lies the Oneonta Gorge! This is true Northwest gem, visit it on a hot August day, wade up the creek to the falls about one mile in and swim in the plunge pool... More

Hiking up Oneonta trail to Triple Falls with a return trip via Ponytail Falls and Horsetail Falls is a reasonably strenuous 5 mile hike through some of the best easily accessible scenery in the Columbia Gorge. Located about an hour out of Portland, to reach the trailhead take I-84 out to Ainsworth State Park and come back on the historic... More
