The Point is the old, upscale neighborhood on the east side of Carteret Street. Not all the homes here are historic, but there are numerous pre-Civil War mansions among the live oaks. If you don't tour the area via a carriage ride, be sure to walk or bicycle around these beautiful streets.

My husband and I took a day trip here from Charleston, SC. We enjoyed a stroll down the main street and also the waterfront. We didn't want to leave yet and couldn't decide what to do but looked on TA and saw that "the point" would avail us of interesting homes. You have to walk away from the downtown area... More

The Point is best enjoyed on foot or by horse-drawn carriage, or perhaps by bicycle (although bicycle may be too fast). We first walked through the Point while doing the self-guided Beaufort Tree Walk (brochure available at Beaufort Visitor Center). Our walk took a while -- we had never seen such a collection of beautifully maintained antebellum mansions or huge,... More

The point has some of the best preserved pre-civil war houses of South Carolina, take the carriage ride and you'll really be stepping back in time.

Perhaps nowhere in the Low Country from Charleston to Savannah is there a place of such extraordinary beauty and history as The Point (on the Beaufort River) in Beaufort, S. C. Whether you want to walk along the blocks and admire all the Beaufort-style (a unique style of architecture that employs a stone basement construction with raised first floors --hey,... More

The point, as well as the rest of the historic district, are easlly walkable and a must when you're in Beaufort. Every street you walk down has another magnificent historic home with a view of the river. We walked the area every day we were there.

Taking a stroll through The Point in Beaufort is a necessary part of any trip through the Low Country. It is a must, and I do it every time I am in the area.

What beautiful mansions right on the water. It's wonderful to picture what it was like back in their day. We did the self guided tour but they didn't say much about the houses

The Point is a great place to wander around. Amazing historical homes, huge Spanish moss-covered oaks, and great water views await.
