My sister recommended visiting this place and I was so glad we did! As soon as we entered the area where the butterflies live, I had one land on my hand and stayed there thru the entire experience! It seems so surreal having this beautiful area and all these lovely butterflies floating around. I took lots and lots of pictures... More

Let me start by admitting that I am afraid of butterflies. Seriously afraid. I know it's freakish and I can't explain it, but after living in Houston for 3 years, I finally took the challenge from my family and made my way inside. The beginning of the exhibit takes you "museum style" through vignettes about the life of insects. It... More

What a treat! This is a 3 level structure that you work your way down from the top on a spiral walk way. There must have been at least 2,000 butterfies. I have been to several other very nice butterfly exhibits, but this one puts them all into another class. I will definetly be going to this exhibit everytime I... More

I don't think I've ever seen a kid (real or at heart) not enjoy this place. It's kept humid, so your hair will get completely destroyed. Don't be surprised, but don't miss it either.

WEAR RED!!! The butterflies are more likely to land on you. This is just a really neat place to visit, there is lots of interesting displays leading up to going out an seeing the butterflies. There is also a really awesome looking Iguana in there, and a nice water fall. If you have children, have them wear red, and take... More

If you have a little girl that loves butterflies, then this is the place for you! Or, if you just enjoy walking through a peaceful rainforest butterfly garden, then I recommend it. As soon as we opened the door to enter, our daughter was in awe. The butterflies are very active and it has been years since I had been,... More

It was pretty good, they had interesting displays and facts about insects before you go into the butterfly dome. In 2012 I went to Galveston Moody Gardens and they have what I thought was a much nicer jungle full of butterflies. In addition they had monkeys and all sorts of jungle birds. I recommend that over this place.

We enjoyed the butterfly center. Lots of different species that you're probably not going to see in your back yard. They give you an identification chart to help you id the different ones you see. The staff were around to answer questions and provide more insight on the butterflys. The exhibit is part of the Natural Science Museum, but we... More

Good for first timers. If you are in Houston and don't mind driving. The Moody Gardens butterfly garden is much better maintained and more worth the visit.

The Museum of Natural Science's Cockrell Butterfly Center isn't exactly an apples to apples comparison with Moody Gardens' rainforest, but there are many advantages. First, an incredible array of butterflies. Moody Gardens can't compare. Second, the comfort level. There are air vents on the pathways in the Cockrell (probably helps keep butterflies at a slight distance from human traffic) so... More
