Very good "down home" meal in an historic setting. Cafeteria style dining and good service. Need to go there at least one time.
It only cost $4 dollars each and it was worth it to stroll around the old Tavern and see the way it might have been when in use. There are some interesting artefacts around and the upstairs meeting room/ballroom was interesting to see. We looked at some of the other blocks such as the smoke house and 'fridge' and that... More
The food was very good for a buffet style. I was expecting more of a tavern atmosphere versus a buffet. Once we were seated the staff was virtually non-existent. I would not make another trip back, even though the food was good.
Not being the the mood for a heavy lunch, we skipped the restaurant. I am glad, though, that we decided to stop for the tavern tour. We had a great time learning about the old tavern and what kinds of amusements and accommodations were available to travelers in the past. The grounds are beautiful and there are several out buildings... More
Nothing bad about this place , food is excellent ; atmosphere is like going back in time . Staff is very friendly and try their best to help any way they can
the tavern, out buildings and story are good about the actual tavern. we did not see the fascination with the actual restaurant. Or all the tourist gift shops near by. It can be confusing where to go just to see the tavern, but ask and don't get "roped" into lunch--there are a lot better things out there
Yes the chicken is good. And it is all you can eat, but really, how much chicken can you eat. Buffet for first plate then they will bring you refills of any items you care to have seconds of. Food was good, but nothing I would go back for. Hated the stewed tomatoes. They had a really strange consistency. I... More
The Michie Tavern complex is very pretty. The buildings are well kept and the grounds are lovely. The $17.50 buffet lunch is way overpriced for quality and selection. Fried chicken, black eyed peas, coleslaw, mashed potatoes, green beans and very sweet stewed tomatoes and biscuits were offered. Drink and dessert were extra; food was ok for a steam table experience.... More
Place worth visiting during your fun adventures around Charlottesville. Nice place to start the journey to Monticello. But also a great place to feel the history. Self-guided tour was a good choice because I could stop and have fun when I wanted. I didn't have time to eat anything, so cannot tell you if their dishes are worth spending money.... More
We stopped by after our visit to Monticello. Didn't quite know what to expect with a buffet. Was pleasantly suprised with the fired chicken. I'm generally not a fan of fried chicken, but in this case, it was good. Other side items were also very good. The only downside was that it was pricey...a bit much for a buffet lunch.
