The size of this National Park is staggering. We only explored the Island in the Sky District. My favorite view was from the beautiful Mesa Arch, I guess it is iconic for this reason.
Beautiful views, fun hikes and awesome 4x4 trails. Canyonlands for us was more high adventure as we took our jeep down Shaffer 4x4 trail. Adreniline pumping but so awe inspiring. This trail ends on Potash road where there are great pictoglyphs/petroglyphs. The stops within the park are all unique and well worth spending the day just doing the short hikes.... More
We visited both the Islands in the Sky and the Needles District. Both are really worth your time. They are very different terrains, so don't think since you saw one that you won't miss anything if you don't go to the other. The views and rock formations are outstanding and awesome. A truly remarkable place to be privileged to visit.
This could be the most unknown park in the area, what a pleasant surprise! Assuming that you have the car, there are two entrances, and they are not connected, the southern entrance is on the UT211 (left turn on the 191 before Moab), the north entrance is shortly after Moab still on the 191 via the 313). The main roads... More
We only had a short time to visit canyonlands, so we drove in to one overlook during the evening and had the place pretty much to ourselves. It was windy and we saw some wildlife. The view was magnificent and you could see the shadows changing.
This park though right near Arches is so different in geology but every bit as beautiful as Arches. Short hike to the Upheaval stone was worth the work. Gorgeous views. Worth the $10 National Park entry fee. Beautiful vistas.
Spent a wonderful day here and wish we could have spent a few more to do more hiking. Wonderful views of such beautiful canyons. Had a super day - photos galore! We arrived on Veterans Day weekend and were able to enter for free, despite our senior pass.
Had 1 day to spend on the park. I just hiked Mesa Arch as I wanted to make sure I could find the place for the next morning sunrise but stopped at most overlook and view points. Grand View point is amazing! Sunrise at Mesa is unforgettable!
Canyonlands NP has 3 entrances. 2 car worthy. We were en-route from Moab to Colorado so this was not the most convenient / efficient of journeys (The Needles may have been easier) but def worth it.
We stopped here on our way from Mesa Verde to Arches on a whim. What great luck. This is a truly spectacular park with a different view around every corner. Newspaper rock is well worth the stop. Unfortunately we had less than a day here but i will definitely return. It is a huge park with many different parts. Do... More
