The 9/11 Memorial consists of two massive pools set within the original footprints of the Twin Towers with 30-foot waterfalls cascading down their sides. The nearly 3,000 names of the men, women, and children killed in the attacks are inscribed into bronze parapets surrounding the twin Memorial pools. This national tribute, located at the heart of the World Trade Center, also gives visitors the unique opportunity to witness the rebuilding taking place around them—including the construction of 1 World Trade Center, which will be the tallest building in the United States. Although free to visit, advance passes for a specific date and time are required. Visitor passes, including same-day passes, can be reserved on the Memorial website. « less

When I was at the 911 memorial, I felt sad as I saw the names of people who had perished as a went to the two fountains. However, for $10, I purchased two magazines and a DVD of the 911 events and I believe that the DVD is worth it. The DVD showed things that were not broadcasted on television... More

With its tragic history, this was my one "must-do" for the trip. We booked our tickets online thankfully (keep checking as inventory changes constantly) so our process was expedited however we did have to stand in line for about 15 minutes & show our ticket and photo id at least 3 times. There is also a metal detector/security search similar... More

So glad to have been able to visit this spectacular display of honor and remembrance. It's hard to imagine what happened here on these grounds. As many reviewers have noted, there is no public restroom. Make sure to book an appointment and be prepared to stand in line for a security check. Look for a crowd and in there you... More

This is truly a must do when never visited. I was there once before and decided to make my 19 year old son. We were both quiet and felt humble in this place that changed the world and so many lives. The entire memorial is built with great respect and it is about never forgetting but also about hope for... More

After standing "on line" for 45 minutes I was wondering if I should just leave. I am glad I didn't. I knew what I would see, but I had no idea how moving the experience would be. This is a very sad, somber place for me. To stand where the towers stood and remember the loss we all witnessed was... More

I got the tickets to the memorial online way before my visit to NYC. I had scheduled my visit for the morning of my first full day in NYC (Monday). As I got closer to the memorial it was clear that lots of other people had had the same idea. Long lines to get through the security, then they moved... More

its like as soon as you walk in, everything changes. i could really feel the sadness, and reverence and remembrance in the air. it was actually really touching to look at the pools and see the names. often when you think of the 9/11 its horrific to think that such a thing could happen, and how many people lost their... This will be a wonderful place to spend a few hours once it is all completed. Even now it is worthwhile walking around the reflecting pools and seeing the names of all those who perished.
