We had a picnic lunch on the grounds, under a large tree on the green lawn. We then went inside and watched a film and took the Dam Tour. It was quite interesting.

We were amazed at the reasonable cost of the dam tour - a mere $5 each - substantially cheaper than the Hoover Dam tour! The tours are conducted at 9.30, 10.30, 1.30 and 2.30 and are very popular so it is advisable to get there early to secure your place. We had to wait for an hour and a half...

Our guide was an electrical engineer who had been there since the late 60's. The tour take you down into the dam to the generator room and outside below the dam. Not much walking and handicapped accessible. Good for all ages.
Interesting guide and superb views from the Dam. First time we tried they cancelled the tour as it was about to start because of high winds. They were running the following day and we were able to reserve a place in the morning for an afternoon tour .
This tour starts in the dam visitor center. One descends about 100 feet to the top of the dam for the view, see a turbine, look down on the river, etc.
Then the fun part starts. One takes another elevator to descend over 500 feet to near the base of the dam (inside the dam). Fascinating to be down there...

I had no idea about dams, and found the dam tour educational and fascinating. Our guide was knowledgeable and well-trained. This tour opened up an a whole new mind-set for me about water conservation and how dams are built and maintained. Kids would be interested too.
Nice place with great scenic vistas. Being from the East I am not used to the geography. I was very interesting and I am glad I visited there.
David Brower fought long a hard to preserve the most scenic canyon in the southwest. Sadly, greed won out.
Great views and info. from the center, with clean bathrooms and great gift shop. Modern and worth stopping at.
OK, it's an old joke, but really go to the DAM! take the dam tour. it's $5 and the best $5 your spend. Getting the inside scoop on this engineering marvel is very interesting. You get to go into the dam... quite impressive. the visitor center also has some very nice exhibits.
