Loved the parades especially at night. The closer to Mardi Gras, the bigger the crowds get. It is so packed if you get drunk the crowd will keep you from falling over!
The best place to go bar hopping and people watching. It doesn't have to be Mardi Gras to enjoy people watching. All kinds of mixture of people walking the street
Thousands of drunk people in one place sounds like a recipe for disaster, but we found it to be just the opposite. Everyone was having a great time - in other words, many happy drunks. The following suggestions should be totally respected !
Do not wear expensive jewelry, watches, rings to New Orleans, especially during Mardi gras ! The crime rate in this city is beyond high and elevates even more during Carnival !

So many cool people and great food, drinks and music all in the same place! This should differently be a must see in your life time. I never seen anything like this! People in just the wildest craziest outfits and just all having a great time. I will differently go back!! Happy Mardi Gras!!
I love New Orleans. Go any time but Mardi Gras and during the hottest days of summer. Mardi Gras has unbearable crowds and is too crazy for human habitation.
I am glad I can say I experienced it once but I can definitely dross this off the my list. We were there 5 days and I saw more parades and people than I cared to. Crowds were crazy. Walking the streets were dangerous because of fear of being hit by flying beads and stepping on beads and falling.
Mardi Gras is not the girls gone wild video that gets shown across the country. Mostly it is family and friends and strangers having a great day in the quarter and surrounding neighborhoods. Locals get up EARLY and spend the day out and about visiting friends and enjoying the day.
