Our extensive network of buses and streetcars winds throughout every neighborhood of the Crescent City. From Uptown to Downtown, from Lakeview to the Lower Nine, from Mid-City across the Mississippi River and to the parish lines, the RTA goes there. As streetcars glide underneath grand live oaks and past stately mansions, they offer up relaxing views of the beauty, charm and history of New Orleans for little cost. When riders board these historic vehicles they are boarding a piece of movable New Orleans history. The RTA operates three streetcar lines: the famous, historic St. Charles line, the Canal Street line, and the Riverfront line. All lines either run along or intersect with Canal Street in the area between the French Quarter and the Central Business District (CBD) connecting Uptown/Garden District, Carrollton, Mid-City, City Park and the Marigny. The RTA is currently adding more Streetcar lines. « less

Took the street car out to City Park to see the New Orleans Museum of Art for free on Wednesday. Enjoyed chatting with a local and seeing the city. Also rode it to the Garden District and all around town whenever possible. The $3 Jazzy Pass to ride all day is a great deal.

THIS IS A MUST DO IN NEW ORLEANS! For $1.25, you cant beat it! You can take it all along and look at the beautiful houses. Takes you right to the zoo also. Such a great way to get around the city.

Was expecting a great way to view the city but this isn't it. It doesn't go to the end and they dump you off on Lake Charles street to catch a ride back to Bourbon street. Really not much of a view either. No AC

We stayed in a hotel on St Charles in the Garden District and the trolley line was right at the door. The cars on this line are refurbished and have lots of wood and character. Unlike the other streetcar lines which have newer cars, these have windows that can open and the breeze is so wonderful on a warm day.... More

Costing only a few dollars for a day ticket it is a nice and inexpensive way to get around the main parts of town. They can get very crowded at times but if you have the time wait for the next one.

We took the line from Canal to the Audubon park. We had to transfer from the streetcar to a bus then to a van to get to the park. This was due to construction and should run smoothly once work is complete. It took over an hour to get to the zoo, but the 5:30pm return was quicker.

Buy a pass and ride the streetcar. No streetcar named Desire any more, but there are others. They move at a leisurely pace, as there are stops at each corner.

As two seniors, we enjoyed a short trip on the streetcar. $ 0.40 per passenger for a one way trip. The view going down St. Charles street was lovely.

I had a lovely time people watching and city watching on the streetcar. Be aware though that as of May 2013 they are working on the line and so a bus takes you part of the way. I'd suggest making this a day trip and getting off at the huge park with the zoo and also the village toward the... More
