The collection of above ground burial places is seriously weird and a bit eerie. Many of the tombs are in a bad state of repair with marble plaques broken and in disarray and generally uncared for. It is a great pity that the city does not take better care of this strange area if only out of respect for their... More

It was amazing to see all the crypts. The staff gave us a booklet and it had the history of some of the crypts and why NOLA buries their dead above ground. Very interesting for a few hours.

The mausoleums are truly beautiful structures. I realize the practical side of them, but there is also lovely, loving artwork that goes into each one to honor a family member. This cemetery is several miles from downtown New Orleans, but tour buses are available.

Imagine all these tombs, close together, some tilted, some regal and upright--OK, it's hard to imagine until you go, and so that's why you should take time and visit the cemetery. It's a photographer's delight. With any sort of weather, you can get great shots here that you can't duplicate anywhere (except outside San Jose, Costa Rica, and that's a... More

We didn't opt for a guided tour but rather took a couple of hours and just walked around the cemetery. It's very well manicured and maintained, and it's humbling to see the monuments. Be careful if you decide to take the streetcar from Canal and walk over - some of these roads aren't very pedestrian-friendly.

this is a trip via trolley from the CBD or the French Quarter. The infamous weeping angel is located in a crypt here. Many of the tombs are adorned with sculpture, especially angels, so it is just beautiful. When you walk here from the last trolley stop on the line, you actually will pass another cemetery so you get a... More

This is by far the most elegant cemetary, many beautiful statues and fountain. The famous Angel of Grief statue can be viewed here.

Enjoyed everything about it, just wished we'd have more time to walk around and take pictures. We felt like we were all alone there with so much history

This was a very interesting area. Friends of ours took us here and showed how the cemetery is above water and not in the ground. We never knew this. The headstones were very interesting to look at.

This place was fascinating! Wandering around the old cemetery was not creepy at all. In fact, we had a true New Orlean's experience by watching an actual Jazz Funeral processing through the cemetery. The hearse followed by the Jazz Band playing. BEAUTIFUL!
