The Brattle has a homey lived-in feel that I just adore-- and rightly so! It's been around seemingly forever. It's a fabulous place to go see new and interesting art films, check out cool events and festivals (for instance, they frequently host authors doing readings in collaboration with Harvard Bookstore), and see fun nostalgic movies. For instance, they recently did... More

This is a good theater. It is not extraordinary or superior to many in the area. It doesn't need to be. The seats are good, there are a good number of screens, and it plays the current movies the other typical theaters are playing. Prices of popcorn and soda and nachos are the typical mindblowing prices that people over 60... More

We didn't go on our recent visit, but this is THE place for vintage films and film festivals (devoted to an actor or director or subject). If you like movies the way they USED to be, go.

I love the Brattle because of how you can see old movies on the big screen. Recently they showed one of my favorites from the 80's, the Last Starfighter. With fresh popcorn slathered with real melted butter and an ice cold locally made root beer, I climbed the stairs to the balcony. It is a truly unique step back into... More

A friend recommended seeing a movie at the Brattle Theater - "Cabin in the Woods" was playing, which I had missed a few months earlier during general release. The movie was excellent, as I expected, and I went on to see it again the next night, but I wasn't expecting to be so impressed by the theater...the small, tucked-away theater... More

This place always has something wonderful or interesting going on - if you live nearby or like to ride the T then you should have their website or brochure handy.... Also the Harvard Book store always does nice readings there for very cheap with amazing authors - I saw Nick Flynn recently give a talk!

The Brattle is not a megaplex with videogames and a giant popcorn machine etc. etc. It's just a fun place to see great movies of a certain vintage. The ultimate experience, of course, is to see Casablanca at the Brattle. So, if you are spending time in the Square, include the Brattle in your cultural diet. It's real.

Been to the Brattle several times and they always have something cool going on. Last time I was there they were showing a recently restored version of a Rin Tin Tin movie and had a guest speaker lecture about the movie before it showed. The theatre is also very old school, with the feel of an old vaudeville stage and... More

This is an old style movie house, with lots of charm. You can get real butter on the popcorn and a glass of wine. I went for the first time to see a newly redone print of Raiders of the Lost Ark with my 13 year old. The movie was print was great. I will definitely return.

Brattle Theater kicks booty. They have theme weeks, like Hitchcock, and I honestly wish I got there more often. Now run by a non-profit, it's a true cultural gem among so many mega movie chains. If you're in town for a weekend and really want to do something utterly different ... go see something you've never even heard of. You... More
