We drove around the cemetary and also got out to walk around,I really love visiting cemetaries, don't know why but it is just so peaceful, everthing is so well kept and maintained. After the madness that is Nola, this was a peaceful escape.

This should be at the top of your list of things to do in Natchez, Mississippi. It's one of the most historic places I've ever seen. The Confederate history alone there is superb. Must see.
This cemetery was our first stop and almost our last! Be Aware that there are very narrow little roads, some with ditches, and when I cut a corner too close apparently, I hit concrete and flattened my tire. My concern was getting AAA to come change my tire before the gates to the cemetery locked up for the night!! As...

We enjoyed a peaceful stroll through the Natchez Cemetery looking at the variety of tombstones. The trees and azaleas were lovely. After a day touring houses of the spring pilgrimage, the cemetery provided a quiet respite.
We enjoyed driving around to see all the ornate family and group plots. There is so much detail in so many of the stones.
We had a book to tell about some of the more famous and infamous characters that are buried there. We went there specifically to find The Turning Angel mentioned in Greg Iles' book of the same...

We did a quick bike trip all around this historic cemetery unfortunately it was a little too brief and we didn't really stop and look at much but it is well worth it. There is some self-guided information if you choose to use it. This would be a great place to spend more time and learn.
The self-guided tour can only be done properly with a map or other form of guide - we used an audio CD that was loaned to us by the Oak Hill B&B, where we stayed. The CD gives directions and an excellent narration of what we are seeing. Watch the road carefully -- the guide post numbers are often hidden...

One of my favorite places. We actually went there twice during the visit. You definitely need to either buy one of the cemetery books (they have a really good one at several of the home museums priced at $39 or you can buy a paper back version for $10) or do some internet research to fully appreciate the tour.
A beautiful place to walk. Many historic persons are buried here - you will recognize many of the family names. At least two Confederate sections with many Confederate graves scattered throughout.
We visited the cemetery in October 2012. It was a rainy afternoon. We are always inspired when we walk thru a pioneer cemetery...so much history. Be sure to take time to read the headstones, especially the inscription for the "Angel who turns around"...a sad story.
