I am not a Mormon but found the information at the two visitor centers at Temple Square very moving. I watched an excellent movie on Joseph Smith which gave me an appreciation of the roots of the religion. I then explored the visitor centers on my own and found them very informative and uplifting. The volunteers were all extremely helpful...

Did the tour late one night. We had 2 young missionaries from Korea and Marshall Islands who were very nice and helpful. Grounds and gardens are wonderful. The Temple is awe inspiring. Thorvaldsen's Christus is beautiful. The Tabernacle was closed because they were recording (bummer).
I will say I was a bit leery of visiting a Mormon site as a non-Mormon. The Mormons that were in the area were very respectful and shared if we asked them questions. The garden was beautiful as well as the architecture. A must see if you're in Salt Lake. Enjoy a picnic or some coffee as there is a mall just across the street with a little food court.
I highly recommend that you spend some time with the guides - we learned from each other (my husband was very interested in the old tools in display, and could explain their uses to them). The explanations of the interior of the Tabernacle, that we cannot visit was very fascinating! The guides were wonderful!
Even thought it was raining we enjoyed the area and was mistafied with the temple. the area was very clean and the missionaries were very helpful in anserwing our questions.

Temple Square is easily the highlight of Salt Lake City. The Temple itself is unique and interesting to see while also being beautiful. The grounds are meticulously maintained and filled with flowers and trees. Missionaries are available for tours, but also leave visitors to themselves if they like.
very pristine and perfect, well thought out and landscaped. perfectly structured and engineered buildings. Flower plantings and architecture in contrast to the mountains was very dramatic
Lovely tulips. Walked around this peaceful place and enjoyed it very much. Good to learn about the church...also found that George bush, Richard Nixon and Churchill descended from the same person
