This mission is beautiful, recommended to us by a friend and guide books we decided to check it out. The only drawback was we went on Sunday and it's definitely a working church. The place was packed for mass. We were able to sneak into the sanctuary in between services to see the murals and paintings. The whole thing is...

What a wonderful mission church, and terrific restoration efforts to help maintain it. The wall murals/paintings are rustic but lovingly painted. The "White Dove of the Desert" is defintely worth a visit and admission is free. Some days locals are on the grounds cooking Indian Fry Bread, which is very tasty, and there are some shops nearby as well (some...

This beautiful old mission church rises up out of the desert; it can be seen for miles. It is still an active Roman Catholic parish. During our visit, a volunteer docent not only gave us a history of the church, but described and explained the colorful paintings and statuary within the church. Mexican Fry Bread can be purchased in the...

Totally impressed by this hand built church from the 1700s, still in use by the Tohono O'odom native americans. Handcarved altar area, statues, beautiful art on the walls and ceiling. A perfect place for a prayer to raise to almight God.
The mission was very interesting but was very exposed and we left because of the desert wind causing a dust storm. Looked around and found that it was cooler inside. Some lovely rooms to be observed with a lot of interesting historic notes.
This mission is well worth the trip. Be sure to take the guided tour as the history of the mission is facinating. We also took note of the beautiful gardens as we are just moved to the area and learning how to garden in this environment.
The Mission is beautiful, standing out so white in the desert - beautiful dark, cool on the inside of the mission. Sad to see all of the poor dogs who are dumped on the reservation just laying around, looking sick and unhealthy. Wish there was some way to stop stupid, cruel people from leaving their dogs out there to die...

Some years ago I visited with my husband and he didn't want to go to the Mission but wanted to go to the Titan Missile site. So we compromised and both went to both. And we both loved them both. I never visit Tucson without visiting the Mission.
This sits a little south of downtown Tuscon, and is a good example of a well-preserved mission. The mission itself provides good photo opportunities. Just outside the mission, there are typically many Native American vendors selling arts & crafts as well as some food such as delicious Fry Bread and corn on the cob.
