Beautiful view if you have transportation to get there. Not good for mobility challenged folks. Taxi there was $60 one way! (and of course, you have to return, so $120 RT!) Ask before you get in!!!

To get to the trailhead you have to drive about six miles up Harbor Mt Road, just off Halibut Point Road. The road is a one lane gravel road with lots of switchbacks and tight turns. Drive slow and easy and you’ll be fine. The hike is 2.5 miles to a shelter, and is up and down, than up and down and than up one more time. The views are amazing on a clear day. When we went up the clouds rolled in, it started to drizzle and then the sun came out. Great hike, a bit more challenging than expected

Drove to the top on a clear day for a amazing view of the surrounding area and city. The drive is on gravel and some people drive way too fast so watch out for that. If its cloudy its not worth the drive because you won't see anything.

Above the clouds hiking! We used Specialized Tours for this hike. They were great!! This hike is moderate. The views are outstanding in all directions.

Good hike from town. Most people I saw were driven up to the top and hiked around up there. We didn't have a car during our visit and wanted to get up above town and get a good view. The begging is a nice wide gravel trail very accessible for all users, and very well marked. After you leave the gravel trial you start to climb pretty quickly over roots and rock and a lot of wooded walkways. The day we hiked it was raining and foggy but it being our first time in SE we weren't going to let that stop us. We made it to the lookout, and about a half a mile above it before we decided to turn back as it was very fogged in. Good hike prolly an awesome hike on a clear day! The size of the trees and stumps is amazing!

A friend drove us to the top of the trail. The views are spectacular. The alpine was unlike any terrain we had seen before. Well worth the time to drive/rent a car. Highly, highly recommend.

We were on Alaska cruise and had 8 hours to spend in Sitka. The trailhead at Baranof street is a short walk from Cruise shuttle drop off. The 1st mile was very leisure, flat and mostly gravel, the rest of the trail to the viewpoint was much harder than we were prepared. It took us 3.5 - 4 hours to complete the trip. The view from platform was spectacular.

You can drive, hike or bike to the top. Several stopping points along the way to take in the incredible views. A must see.

I often visited the Sitka's Harbor Mountain Trail annually during the summer, it is a very breath taking view and they have plenty of picnic table to choose from for bring your own lunch or dinner and relax and enjoy the view of the ocean.

We chose to do the Harbor Mountain Trail to the Gavan Trail into downtown Sitka. Took us about 5 hours as we stopped for plenty of pictures. This is about a 7 mile one way hike so we had to get a taxi ride up the mountain. CAUTION: Ask for fare before you commit to a taxi. Our taxi charged $80.00 for the ride from the Eagle Bay Inn to the Harbor Mountain trailhead. Unfortunately, we found that out when we arrived at the trailhead. I wish I recalled the name of the taxi to avoid. If you just want to enjoy a scenic hike, drive up the mountain and hike to chalet and back (about 4.5 miles). Only drawback to continuing to Gavan trail for us was the descent which was mostly wooden stairs all the way down and very slippery on a wet day.
