What travellers are saying
- Peter JChiang Mai, Thailand283 contributionsThis is a museum on the outskirts of the town of Kalasin. It is world class and vey informative. It is a great place to take kids to spend an afternoon. It is relatively cheap admission prices but they do charge foreigners higher admission cost. There is a restaurant on site too.Written May 31, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- agentdadamsNorth Myrtle Beach, SC74 contributionsOutstanding architecture and beautiful statues. The woodwork in the Stupa building is amazing. Beautiful views as well. A must-see in Kalasin. Support the local monks while there. Be respectful. Do not miss thisWritten November 10, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Meyung RHua Hin, Thailand193 contributionsThis was not an enclosed museum with untouchable fossils encased behind a window shop I walked in the footprints of 140 million years old dinosaurs!! Where else can I touch and feel the bark and trunk of a 150 years old petrified tree? Only at Phu Faek Forest Park in Kalasin, Thailand. Never in my life I have felt so small and so privileged! I had goosebumps all over. Awesome experience!Written November 27, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - William HYasothon, Thailand240 contributionsBeautiful architecture with the wooden temple and the “stone” chedi but I was disappointed with the construction debris laying around the grounds. A lot of neglected maintenance.Written February 13, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Sunrise in IsaanSomdet, Thailand104 contributionsThe attraction of this place is the Buddha festival around May. This is a 5 day festival with many food and traditional craft stalls, presented in traditional wooden housing. A lot of trouble is taken in the building of this site for the festival, with flowers and traditional crafts adorning the "shops".
Traditional dress is worn and most Thai visitors wear very smart traditional or respectful smart wear with yellow a prominent colour. There is a colourful decorated area (see other contributors photos).
In the evenings, which are cooler, live music and dancing is featured, but even during a hot day the atmosphere is great.
Although you need transport it is worth a visit. No entrance fee and plenty of food stalls at normal prices.

The rock carving is supposedly over 2000 years old. The other more popular two temples that most people visit have recently been built.Written August 25, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - BodblueLondon, UK4 contributionsFancinating, informative historical museum brought to life by Dr Stephen Martin curator and collector. Well worth making the effort to arrange a visit and let Dr Martin show you the amazing objects in the museum brought to life by Dr Martin's colourful stories and historical investigation. An absolute gem.Written January 26, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Mark B65 contributionsA great place to visit. Just like being on a beach but without the nasty taste of saltwater! Jet skis, Banana boats or just a swim the choice is yours. Water is nice and clean and the beach area is lovely. Plenty of food choices, toilets & changing rooms. A great place to spend a day at the beach without travelling to the coast!Written January 31, 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Raymond WTownsville, Australia4,565 contributionsThis hill is one of the historic Buddhist sites in Kalasin province. It was once home to a small community of forest monks who lived here, far away from society, during the 6th to 10th centuries during the Dvaravati era. They have left two ancient carvings of Reclining Buddhas from the 8th or 9th centuries, one on the lower slopes and one just below the peak. They are covered in gold leaf now and remain objects of veneration. The Buddha on the top is regarded as artistically superior. The views from the top are excellent and the climb up isn't too taxing. There are clumps of bamboo and wildflowers and butterflies to enjoy.Written September 23, 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Steven SPattaya, Thailand754 contributionsPopular place for young Thai people. One small pavilion has a number of food vendors with tables and chairs. A larger pavilion next door is mainly used for drinking and listening to music. Given the situation there was no live music happening only recorded music. I only visited to have a look and grab some dinner. I guess if there is a group of you then regardless of the situation you can still have a good time.Written April 6, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Sunrise in IsaanSomdet, Thailand104 contributionsThis place is situated by a reservoir, so in the rainy season (typically June - Oct) you may find the "beach" is small to non existent!
At other times it is an interesting and well set up place. You park and walk through a food village to the beach. You have the opportunity then or when you reach the beach to order food which is then brought to you at the beach or on the grass behind. When we went a young girl on a bike immediately approached us as we parked, touting for business... which was fine and shows how well trained in the family business she was! The chosen vendor can supply food drink and a mat to sit on. You can also rent chairs on the beach. Prices were a little more than normal but not outrageous. Alcohol is available.
Apart from swimming there are water sports and boat trips but do beware to ask for safety equipment as tragedy has struck here due to the lack of safety culture!
Nearby you can go to the river that comes from the reservoir and spend a nice time on the bank or rafting or using other inflatables you can rent.
Own transport is preferable as it lets you explore a little around the reservoir.Written May 25, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Great to spend an hour or two, especially with the kids. Pushcarts nearby sells snacks and drinks.Written March 7, 2015This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Sunrise in IsaanSomdet, Thailand104 contributionsStrange place.... a viewpoint on the main road from Kalasin to Sakon Nakhon.. route 213... with a food stall (not sure it is always available) and toilets and a dangerous swing that goes out over a sheer drop!
As you approach you will see 2 huge dinosaurs dressed in wellington boots...
Worth a 5 minute stop for the view and a stretch of the legs I guess.Written May 25, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
