What travellers are saying
- JA6 contributionsMaine Maritime Museum is situated along the Kennebec river in Bath, Maine, adjacent to the Bath Ironworks. We booked on the Land and Sea tour, which I highly recommend, especially if you have never been to Bath. The tour took us on a trolley through Bath where our very knowledgeable tour guide (a former employee at Bath Ironworks) described the history of the town as well as the history of Bath Ironworks (where military vessels are built). Even the trolley driver piped in with some interesting history. Following this, we toured part of the museum and then boarded a tour boat which took us past the Ironworks where we could see several vessels in various stages of construction. We were able to cruise up the Kennebec river and back again- great narration and interest details about the area. Saw a few eagles along the way! The museum itself has retained its very interesting shipbuilding history and has some wonderful displays. The boat-building workshop was very impressive - they have an excellent connection with several schools in the area and provide programs for kids to be able to participate in boat construction. Well done, Maine Maritime Museum!Written October 25, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- pamietravelsHuntington Beach, CA5 contributionsGreat place to see the best of Maine. Lighthouse, rocky shore, gardens, birds, nautical museum. Small restaurant. Always a favorite when we visit Bath.Written November 12, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- kate mNewburyport, MA38 contributionsOur volunteer tour guide, John, did a great job educating us about the first settlers' experiences and the ship Virginia built soon after their arrival. We enjoyed hearing the stories of the ship and Popham, Maine where our friend has a summer home. We admire the 12 years volunteers have spent creating the replica of the Virginia and look forward to going back when we can actually board the ship. The docents were all enthusiastic and knowledgeable.Written August 7, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - ThomasTCatSt. Louis, MO784 contributionsWe are so glad we stopped by this wonderful information center because we thought we were only coming to Bath to see the Maine Maritime Museum. Little did we know that there were enough wonderful places to explore that we came back a second day to enjoy this amazing town.
We were given lots of maps, brochures and even a walking /driving tour map of the beautiful architecture that we thoroughly enjoyed. This should definitely be your first stop when you come to Bath!Written September 9, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - NHjoSaco, ME8,610 contributionsThe morning was abnormally warm for the end of October -- in the high 70s -- and the park was very peaceful, with a few people enjoying the weather and views. The foliage was past peak but still colorful, and the Kennebec River was like a mirror that reflected the Sagadahoc Bridge beautifully.Written October 28, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - gascolatorPennsylvania54 contributionsWe paddled our kayaks there. Best to arrive early, as the parking is very limited. Fascinating shoreline.
The water is quite warm, so it's a popular place for swimmers.

I took another photo of it mid-morning after having a cappuccino and scone at the cafe across the street.Written October 28, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - NHjoSaco, ME8,610 contributionsThe Spirit of the Sea fountain is the highlight of Bath's Library Park near Patten Free Library. The artist was William Zorach, who gifted the sculpture to the city in 1962. It's located in a landscaped pool and surrounded by beautiful flowers in the warmer months. It's also near a gazebo and tiny footbridge.Written August 7, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
