The Kathmandu Valley consists of three cities: Kathmandu, Patan, and Bhaktapur. Patan and Kathmandu are separated by the Bagmati river. Bhaktapur is set off closer to the eastern foothills. The three regions contain many Buddhist and Hindu temples.
Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM) is the only international airport in Nepal and is conveniently located in Kathmandu just six kilometres from the city centre. Frequent carriers include Qatar Airways, Gulf Air Company, and Etihad Airways.
Durbar Square, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, consists of temples and monuments and was once the Royal Palace.
For a very unique experience visit the Dakshinkali Temple where animals are sacrificed twice a week to the goddess Kali.
