We had agroup holiday in Lagos Portugal. Many bars and restaurants visited plus the odd excursion - we had such a great time we wanted to share the best of it.
We even had an awards ceremony on the final night - here are our results.
This was voted the best bar of the holiday. This must have been for the atmosphere because it's not much to look at.
Cocktails on buy one get one free before 10pm got us through the door and the music and good looking barmen kept us coming back for more.
Vino Divino was the winner although mullens was a close second. Vino divino was lovely food but the roof terrace set it apart from everything else. It is a gorgeous setting and made a lovely meal into a really special night. It would be very romatic if you didn't have us four being raucous on the next table.
The winner of this category was Duquessa. The chicken satay wowed 2 of the group.
Dolphin Seafari was the unanimous winner. 90 mins trip on a rigid inflatable boat - very safe and very fast. We actually spotted the dolphins so keep your eyes peeled like they ask! The dolphins are beautiful. They are swimming wild in the sea - they are not fed or trained in any way - the only reason they stay around when the boat finds them is that they like to play- if they didn't want to be there they could disappear very quickly. If the seafari guys thought they didn't want us around they would not follow them. It means you get a really beautiful experience (it was actually quite moving - they was a lump in our throats at times) and you feel comfortable with the treatment of the animals which was very important to us.
All in all the best thing to do in Lagos - not to be missed.
The outright winner of this was the waiter at Don Toro. The place had fabulous food but the most outstanding feature was this guy, he was chatty and friendly without being overbearing or creepy in anyway. Very realxing, felt like he was really happy to have us there. He impressed us so much that we even waved to him the next night when we passed the restaurant - quite embarrasing when we realised we had gone the wrong way and had to pass the door again - we weren't stalking him honest!
Bon vivant - a must visit, cheesy bar but great roof terrace overlooking one of the main streets, good cocktails
Galo - very stylish, good dj and mix of music and helpful staff.
Three Monkeys - popular bar, free internet access
Taverna de lagos - Very nice bar, huge inside and lots of tables, never very busy, probably due to the more expensive prices than anywhere else. Still worth a visit if you are prepared to pay a bit more.
Lounge - dissapointing cocktails but very nice decor.
Grand Cafe - interesting but not very good layout and never busy
Zanzibar - smelt and felt like a wardrobe but good cocktails and excelent cheesy rock music.
Stones bar - again good classic rock music, very small but a nice refuge from some of the wilder bars.
Shaker bar - dodgy reggae music, free internet access the only redeeming feature
KUinns - great little place, R&B music the ngiht we were there despite being known as house music venue.
Chill House - off the beaten track slightly but very recently re-decorated - a morrocan theme if my memory serves me right. Friendly stafff and a really nice feel to the place - definitley worth a visit.
