As a retired guy on a small pension I must watch my spending so list of bargin places.

  • Category: Best of
  • 1. Pozole Alley

A group of cafes in a alley off Nickolas Bravo with incredible good cheap food. My favorite is Ricomar where you cab get a Enchilada dinner for 14 pesos. Great Tamales for 7 pesos, Fried Chicken full dinner for 30 pesos. My average bill is under 30 pesos with dinner & a soft drink.

  • 2. M J & Richie's Zihuas best Beach Cafe

Located on the most "Mexican" of the Zihua beachs has a wonderful staff, excellent food at very reasonable prices. Located on Playa Madera just down from The Las Brisas Hotel & about 10 minutes from El Centro on the bay side walkway.

  • 3. The Mercardo

Local market for fresh fruits, breads, coffee at 50 pesos a kilo. Where the locals shop for clothes, tools & all the necissaties of life. Example of bargins: I bought 6 oranges, a large bunch of bannanas. a loaf of bread for 12 pesos (About a dollar).

  • 4. Italian on a budget- Don Memos

Good Italian food at very low prices. Great salads (30 pesos), Onion Soup (30 Pesos) & Rib Eye steaks at 90 pesos. Pastas from 40 pesos. Garlic bread with all dinners. Only 6 or so tables next to Angela's Hostel

  • 5. Busing the area

Excellent bus systems. Buses every couple of minutes between Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo 6 pesos Versus 50 via cab. Often you are "Entertained" by troubadours singing for tips. Some very good & some Very Bad!. Take the bus to Petatlan for 12 Pesos versus 300 via cab. From Zihua El Centro to La Ropa 4 Pesos. Check it Out.

  • 6. Groceries etc. at the best prices

The Commercial Mexicana is the best of the super stores for food products. On par to a Safeway in the US but also includes some clothes, appliances etc & a Pharmacy. I do find that The Bodega while not as good as the Commercial for groceries but is better price on sundries such as shampoos, mouth wash, tooth paste etc. The Mercado in El Centro is still the best for fresh fruits & vegetables.

  • 7. Sunday Lamb BBQ

For great BBQ lamb go to The Pueblito Restaurant on Jose Moreles on Sunday afternoon. A full delicious meal more than I can finish for 90 pesos. It's served in a lovely courtyard by a friendly staff.

  • 8. best seafood is at Chendo's with low prices

Best Coconut shrimp & Shrimp stuffed fresh fish in Town at Low Low prices (100 pesos in a real Mexican cafe. Walk the footbridge by the pier turning right two blocks upstairs on the left.

  • 9. Marina Cafe

Great pizza, seafood & breakfasts at modest prices. Most items under 100 pesos. On the water by the Basketball court.
