Forts on wheel

It is essentailly a road trip guide for Rajasthan, particularly from Mumbai.

  • 1. Mumbai (Bombay)
    Mumbai (Bombay), Maharashtra

    This was our starting point

  • 2. Mahesana
    Mahesana, Gujarat

The first night we spent at Mahesana. If you are planning to see Ahmedabad, then you can stop there. Otherwise it is better to avoid Ahmedabad on the way to Jaisalmer. By staying Mahesana you save driving in and out of Ahmedabad city. It saves considerable time. Additionally, just 20 km off Mahesana, there is beautiful sun temple at Modera. This can be a good off-the-road excursion.

  • 3. Jaisalmer
    Jaisalmer, Rajasthan

Essentially, one should give Jaisalmer minimum 3 days/2 nights. One day is enough for fort and the city, one day should be reserved for desert safari. Third day is optional either to venture towards Tanot, or Khuri.

  • 4. Jodhpur
    Jodhpur, Rajasthan

Driving from Jaisalmer and Jodhpur is really beautiful through Thar Desert. Jodhpur also takes 2 days/2 nights. One day is for Mehrangarh fort and the city. Jodhpur market is an interesting market. So spend some time there in the evening. Second day, it will be good to make a trip to Osian to visit beautiful Jain temples.

  • 5. Chittaurgarh
    Chittaurgarh, Rajasthan

While driving from Jodhpur, it is better to use highways. One day/one night is enough for Chittaurgarh. The fort is rich in history and the most popular destination.

  • 6. Udaipur
    Udaipur, Rajasthan

Udaipur is one of the most beautiful cities in Rajasthan. The City palace takes about half a day, and rest of the day can be spent by seeing other city attractions like Jagmandir, Pitcholla Lake, Fateh sagar Lake etc. Udaipur is a good basecamp for seeing different parts of Rajasthan. One day should be spent for Ranakpur, where the Adinath temple is famous for carvings. One day can be a trip to impregnable fort of Kumbhalgarh in the Aravalli Mountain. One day can be Haldighati and a pilgrimage trip to Sri-Nathadwara. Do spent some time also in Udaipur market.3 to 4 days or more to Udaipur is always advisable.

  • 7. Vadodara
    Vadodara, Gujarat

It is a nice place to make night halt on the way back to Mumbai. Nice hotels and a decent accommodation.

  • 8. Mumbai (Bombay)
    Mumbai (Bombay), Maharashtra

Back to home. Trip ends with a good memmory.
