What could be better than a tour that marries exercise, education,and shopping at some of the city's best boutiques?
Thanks to Ikea, ... more »the Swedes get all the accolades for design, but among the Scandinavian countries, Finland is actually considered the design diva--as its 2012 designation as the World Design Capital attests to.
Not only does this tour take you through some of the city's best design shops, but much of it also takes place along Esplanadi Boulevard (the two streets making up Esplanadi are officially named Pohjoisesplanadi and Eteläesplanadi), considered by locals to be the heart of the city and one of the most beautiful areas of Helsinki.
During this walk you will pass many great design shops that are not specifically referenced (this tour is intended only to showcase some of the best and most well known), but feel free to stop in if you have the time (and the money).
Watch for the statue of Havis Amanda, which is near the beginning of our tour. The art nouveau nude was sculpted by Ville Vallgren at the beginning of the 20th century and symbolizes the rebirth of Helsinki. less «
