Beautiful spot. Warm cosy bar - like an english pub. Good honest food. Clean and comfortable rooms. Lovely and personable hosts. Our transport let us down and the hosts put themselves out in order to take us to the beginning of the Routeburn track. They rescued our holiday - which turned out to be fantastic. We stayed 3 nights in the slightly more upmarket lodge next to the backpackers and it was really comfortable with a room overlooking the lake.
