I had a great time at Coffee Shack where I stayed for one week ! It's located 5 min from the Coffe Bay beach (which is very beautiful), their staff is very helpful staff and the food is really good and cheap, especially for dinner. The rooms and common bathrooms are very clean at all time of the day. I... More

We arrived for a three night stay at Coffee Shack. On seeing the room, I immediately wanted to leave. We were in the dorm beside the reception which was so cramped that I didn't even have anywhere to set my bag. The floor was covered in sand and there was rubbish everywhere. We were given two top bunks but no... More

Coffee bay is the most amazing place in South Africa. Coffee Shack is definitly most popular backpackers - they are very well organised and will pick you up and drop you off in Mhtata... They have some great activities but mostly the very nice atmosphere. The backpackers have huts also across the river - some people enjoy that - some... More

Yes its good, but not quite as good as some of the other reviews make you think it is. It sure aint no heaven on earth, but still its well worth staying at. There is a little walk to the actual beach. We stayed at the cottages across the river. They are very basic, don't expect too much. The atmosphere... More

This has to be the best backpackers I have ever stayed in. The vibe is just so awesome with multiple tours per day going all around the village. I would def recommend staying in one of the beds as opposed to camping out. You must also go on the tour to see the hole in the rock. Im not sure... More

This has been my third time to Coffee Shack and I just love going back. The people are amazing, the vibe is brilliant and the day trips are worth every cent. The bathrooms are always clean, hot water and great. The beach is walking distance and beautiful. My only complaint is the horrible backpackers close by- Bomvu backpackers. They play... More

Hello Thanks for your positive comments. As you suggested the traditional thatched rondavals(huts) across the stream are always recommended if you want a little bit more space & quiet. There are both dorms and double rooms on that side. Safe travels and hope to see you again. Cheers David & the Coffee Shack crew More

Coffee Shack was my favourite stop on a two week journey around South Africa. It's a bit of a trek to get out there but well worth it. We offer accommodation in traditional, thatched-roof huts, ranging from private rooms to dorms, as well as camping facilities in the garden next to the beach. Weather and ocean permitting, join us for daily sundowners with magnificent views or taste freshly caught oysters and mussels at the bar before dinner. Stay for five nights and get your 5th night free! Our ‘Babalaza Bar’ is fully licensed and rocks in the evenings with its free pool table and range of drinks and cocktails. Join in the Killer Pool game or enjoy the chilled-out atmosphere around the firepit. Our variety of day trips include cultural walks exploring the local Xhosa culture, a traditional evening of dance and song at the home of a local family where you can try traditional Xhosa food and beers, beach days on the beautiful Coffee Bay, surf lessons, exploring Mapuzi cliffs and caves, hiking to the legendary "Hole in the Wall" or just walking in the local countryside with one of the local guides. We have a good internet connection, safe parking and a laundry service. For self-drive, we are located in the Eastern Cape of South Africa, in the former Transkei area.
