Just outside the city of Lucerne is the lovely family run hotel Balm with very helpful staff, we had a super clean room which we think would have a stunning view but we had a lot of fog and snow on the day we stayed. We enjoyed a simple but lovely breakfast with great coffee and a very helpful owner.

Hotel Balm, just outside Lucerne is a small family runned hotel that focus on culinary experiences outside of the ordinary. It is well worth a trip, instead of staying inside the city! So highly recommended not only as a place to stay, but more so for the fantastic food that is always served.

This hotel restaurant remains as pricey as ever. They now charge CHF2.50 for a half litre of tap water. I complained through these pages last year. They do not warn you. we had booked the hotel way ahead and were not aware, that the hotel was a little outside of the city. But i quess: our fault. I liked it, the restaurant is good, and the breakfast was outstanding.

Stayed one night at the Meggen. Big rooms with comfortable beds. Great service and good breakfast. It is outside the town of Luzern and there are no restaurants near by, except their own. A bit pricey (240 euros) but Switzerland is just that way.

We stayed three nights at the Balm in Meggen near Lucerne, choosing an out of town hotel in preference to a city location and definitely made the right choice.
