Rather grand, if of faded glory, country house hotel. Don't think I would want to experience the etang itself which was slimy green rather than blue. Our room did not overlook it and was therefore cheaper but was actually better as there were no beasties from the waterside. Fantastic dining room but it was so hot, all residents ate outside.... L'Etang Bleu is not worth the 74 euros (not inc breakfast) we paid for it. We stayed in places for the same price and even 10 euros less which were in better locations, included breakfast and much better looked after. Without a doubt the owners were very friendly and helpful. The bedroom was also decorated in a pretty French style.... More

Beautiful rustic hotel in a very peaceful location. The food is excellent, we did eat out one night when we couldn't face another five course meal, we'd really recommend the pizza restaurant in Mareuil, L'Olive Noire. The staff at the hotel were very friendly and made our stay extra special. We stayed for four nights and enjoyed visiting local towns... More

We stayed here to be near our friends, who are renovating a house nearby, and it was recommended by them.It was absolutely lovely.Set in beautiful grounds, the hotel is more like a grand hunting lodge than a Logis.I can only agree with previous reviewers on food, decor etc.You would really need a car whilst here as it is in the back of beyond but... My husband and I stayed here for two nights during our honeymoon, when most hotels in the Dordogne region were either too expensive or booked (we didn't plan ahead). We really loved the place overall -- the huge property is peaceful and gorgeous (though a bit run), with ducks quacking their heads off in the large pond. The owners are... More

Tranquil, relaxing, welcoming - and affordable -the Auberge de l'Etang Bleu is all of these things. It is set in parkland overlooking a lake. The rooms are a good size, the beds comfortable. We stayed two nights half-board, and dinner on the terrace on both nights from an extensive menu was a true celebration. Or you could eat in the... More

The setting is wonderful, in a lovely park by the water. Fantastic meals are served on the terrace by attentionate staff. The decoration of the bedrooms is rather dated, but they are clean.

Stayed here for the first 4 nights of a 2-week Dordogne vacation. What a lovely place, if you are looking for peace and quiet this is the place to be. It is a home that looks hundreds of years old but isn't, set in a wonderful park including 2 lakes. It has a terrace where wonderful meals are being served.... More

Traveling between Tours and Carcassonne France, we stopped in the little village of Vieux-Mareuil for the night. The first Hotel we spotted was the Hostellerie de l'Auberge de L'Etang. Small, but very clean, the hotel was the perfict place for a nights rest off the highway. Friendly, helpful staff, Very good breakfast. A nice place to stay.

Pleasant traditional french auberge. Room and food was typical classical cuisine with a little modern twist. Position was lovely and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. The hotel and restaurant appears to be run by one family. We had a fantastic 2 days. The half board tariff we chose was superb. Anything for breakfast including superb omlettes, Home... More
