My daughter and I stayed here for a couple days for a break on a visit to Canada from the UK it was an incredible experience we went fishing for a day out and my daughter caught an pike which was an amazing experience for her our guide Megan was amazing as we had a challenge from the men in another boat which of course we won we even stopped at an island and had lunch. The cabin we stayed in was spotless and the main lodge was spectacular so much to take in from the log fire to-the Bear in the corner every time you went in something different would catch your eye the food was amazing. I really enjoyed sitting around the fire pit in the evening hearing the Beavers splashing around it certainly was an amazing experience for us one we will never forget Thank-you Peter Tania and the team for making our stay and incredible one which we will never forget hopefully we will return very soon

A perfect Wedding/Fishing getaway! Owners are so welcoming and accommodating. They made our day so beautiful from the outdoor setting to the stunning autumn decorated dining room. Wedding cake 'By Meghan' was beyond impressive! Great fishing, cozy cabins! We highly recommend you book a stay and enjoy making fun new memories!

I'll start by saying the cabin and the food were great. I found everyone to be very nice and accomodating. However, it seems to be more of a fishing destination than a bear hunting destination. Honestly I left a bit dissatisfied because the stand was not adequately brushed in, and I was not allowed to change stands. I was told they would bait 4 stands all summer. When I arrived I was told they had just stopped baiting three of those because there were no hits on the bait. I was allowed to hunt only 1 stand during my trip. On my first hunt I informed my guide (Jake was a great guide) on my way to the stand that I would like them to start running those other baits because if I didn't see anything on this stand I would want to move to another stand by midweek. I was told no, indirectly by the proprietor. When I sat in the stand for a bit I mentioned to my guide that it was void of cover except in the front of the blind. I had no cover behind me to allow my clothing to blend in. I was sihouetted against the sky from the front. Because there was no cover on the sides or behind, I was totally expeosed. After a few hours it is difficult to sit still but cover helps that a great deal. I told my guide the blind needed to be brushed in better. He did make some changes but I got the impression he was not allowed the time to do a good job of it. The back and much of the sides remained void of brush. I believe this resulted in a missed opportunity. I know there were bears there. I was sitting still enough to see a cow moose, her calf and a wolf not 20 yrds from the blind, just no bears. I also don't think there are many bears in Marten River. I was told only three bears hit my bait site and no other bait sites saw action (leading to them closing down the bait) all summer. From all of this I conclude that the proprietor is not a hunter. If he hunted he would have seen that the blind needed to be brushed in to provide some cover and not just tell me "it sounds like someone isn't sitting still enough in the stand". That may be true, but who can sit that still for 6 hours for 6 consecutive days? To me, he did not appear to be to concerned about the comfort or success of my hunt.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback about your recent stay and bear hunting experience at Marten River Lodge. We truly appreciate your honest assessment, as it helps us identify areas where we can improve our services and provide a better experience for our guests. First and foremost, we're delighted to hear that you enjoyed the cabin and food during your stay, and that you found our staff, especially your guide Jake, to be accommodating and friendly. We take pride in our hospitality and always aim to make our guests feel comfortable. We deeply regret that your bear hunting experience did not meet your expectations. We understand your concerns about the baiting process and the lack of adequate cover in the blind. Your feedback regarding the stand being insufficiently brushed in is invaluable to us, as it highlights an area where we can enhance the hunting experience for future guests. Regarding the limited number of active bait sites and the decision to stop baiting some of them, we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. While we do our best to ensure successful hunts, wildlife behavior can be unpredictable, and we rely on the expertise of our guides to make the best decisions for our guests. We take your comments seriously and will use them to make improvements to our hunting program. As for your impression that the proprietor may not be a hunter, we appreciate your perspective. Our primary goal is to provide a positive and successful hunting experience for our guests, and we'll use your feedback to ensure that future hunts are more comfortable and productive. We want to emphasize that we value your feedback and are committed to improving our services. We are grateful for the opportunity to host you. Once again, we appreciate your feedback and thank you for choosing Marten River Lodge for your hunting adventure. We hope to have the chance to welcome you back in the future. Tania and Peter

I visited Marten River Lodge in August 2022. I had 2 young grandchildren with me. It was nice to have a kitchen and living room in the cabin. Hosts Tania and Peter were great. Kids loved the beach and spending time playing in the lodge. They also enjoyed the bonfires Chef Peter’s meals were wonderful. He was also very accommodating to kids likes and dislikes. Everyone was so friendly. Can’t wait to return again next year!

We booked this 3 day fishing adventure as a birthday outing for our 8 year old grandson who loves to fish. He was not disappointed with his catch of pickerel and bass! Derek, the guide, was very patient with Logan , explained a lot about fishing to him and became his “ new best friend” ! The cabin was rustic but we were comfortable, the meals were wonderful( thank you Chef Peter) and our servers Jen and her daughter Chloe were always friendly and engaging! Tania and Peter, the owners , were always available to assist if needed and really make it their mission to ensure you have a great time at their lodge. We wish them continued success in their business. All in all, we accomplished our goal of quality time with our grandson and exposing him to a full 3 days of doing what he loves!

We are six fishing buddies ranging in age from 58 to 75. As one can imagine we have different needs and wants. These can be from having cabins that can accommodate us comfortably with ample living quarters, spacious bedrooms with comfortable beds. Some of us are physically challenged and need convenient and easy access to boats as well as flat decking for boats. These boats are rather high end in terms of features for 16’ fishing boats. They have comfortable swivel seats with backs, live well with running water, bilge pumps and fish finder in every boat. The motors in their whole fleet are finely tuned and have an electric start. The boats are refuelled twice daily. They have a number of cabins, including a newly renovated wheel chair accessible - check for details. There are also extra off site, guided fishing excursions. As far as meals are concerned - they can accommodate any option you choose from three meals a day to a modified meal plan. We choose to be independent and cook our own meals in the relatively well equipped kitchen in our cabin. Tina and Peter are wonderful hosts and if we needed something were very accommodating. We’ve been here four of the last five years. It is really hard to find as good a value for the money. We will most likely be returning next year.

A drive in northern fishing trip has been on my bucket list for many years. As covid restrictions lifted I decided this was the year. I have to book my vacation well in advance so the only time slot I had available qas mid July, not ideal but more on that later. After alot of research I chose Marten River Lodge. My criteria for narrowing down my lodge selections came down to three things. The boats, I wanted upgraded flat floor boats with swivel seats so that my father(73) could enjoy the trip, the options for back lake fishing excursions, and a well reviewed American meal plan. Marten River Lodge met all these criteria. Hosts - Marten River Lodge is now run my Peter and Tania. Both were marvelous hosts who made us feel welcome immediately. Tania looked after the initial booking and gave us the info we needed. She and Peter welcomed us as we drove in and gave us the lay of the lodge and grounds. Peter ran us through the boats, fishing regs, introduced us to the bait shack and gave countless tips and advice for fishing Marten River. Our boats were gased up and ready to go each morning. We would run into Tania and Peter all day long and we looked forward to "beer and bull" each day at 4 o'clock. Staff - the staff and Marten River Lodge were amazing. Chef Peter wad entertaining and seriously a master chef! The dining room staff were so friendly and personable. The guides were knowledgeable, helpful and cooked us an amazing shore lunch on Lake Wicksteed. Derrick entertained us as well as educated us on Walleye trolling and pike hot spots. Food - We went with the American plan and were so happy we did!! I know I said it above but the food was incredible. Seriouy 5 star dining. We were a party of 7 and we dined with a party of 5, and 3 parties of 2 for a total of 18 guests. Each party was served in time and 3 amazing courses. Chef Peter has been cooking and serving amazing food for half a century and it shows. He loves feeding groups that have worked up an appetite on the waters. Lodging - We stayed in cabin 8 which was 4 bedrooms each with 2 single beds. The cabin was clean, well situated by the water, had everything in it we needed including a screened in porch. The other guests that were there along with us seemed to love there accommodations as well. Fishing - Marten River offers some amazing fishing no doubt. Our fishing was hampered by a heat wave and then thunderboomers. But when the heat let up and in between the storms our crew hooked into Walleye, small mouth bass, and pike which were our intended target. Lake Wicksteed which was our day trip back lake was amazing. On a less then ideal fishing day, 30+ degrees and full sun, our guides helped us pull in well over 40.walleye and several large pike. We kept only enough for an amazing shore lunch and some my Dad to bring home to Mom. My crew was not well versed in trolling so if you intend to go familiarizing your self with some worm rigs etc would be beneficial. Boats - Marten River Lodge's boats were exactly what I was looking for. 16 foot all aluminum, modern fishing boats. Flat floor, swivel chairs, casting deck, live well, and electric start 30hp motors to get you where you need to be. Caution - the motors are 2 stroke and are thirsty so keep an eye on your tank. Peter will refill as needed and fuel is included. In conclusion my experience at Marten River Lodge was amazing!! Peter, Tania and staff made us feel part of the Marten River Lodge family and my kids, brother, father and I fully intend on returning....hopefully soon!!

Travel has been very difficult these past two years with Covid, so we decided that we would stay close to home and explorer Northern Ontario. We were looking for a good area for photography with great accommodations, amenities, and onsite dining. We found it all, plus some, at the Marten River Lodge with hosts Peter and Tania. We stayed in a cozy log cabin, that they had ready for us, down to having the fireplace and lights on. Because we didn't want to drag food, and bedding, we opted for the American Plan. With all the health and safety precautions, we were unable to each in the dining room, so our meals were promptly served at a set time in our cabins. The meals were top-notch, and I would recommend choosing the American Plan vs cooking on your own. But if you were wanting to do the latter, they had a BBQ at each cabin, stove/oven, microwave, fridge/freezer, and even a large bonfire in the evening for smores and hotdogs! Now neither Rosemarie nor I know how the run a boat but Peter personally took us out on the river for photography. For fun, we also took the optional ATV tour. Now this was a MUST!!! They are truly dog-friendly and my little Westie loved being on the boat and ATV. The whole site was well maintained. They have cabins for single or family groups. While there was no AC, location right on the water with large screened-in porches. Great for fishing, free WiFi in the family-style lounge. Lots of amenities. Great hosts and the chef is fabulous. Wonderful gazebo and bonfire areas. The cabins were spotless, and the docks, boats, equipment, outbuildings, and grounds were well maintained. Would I recommend the Marten River Lodge? Absolutely! Would I go again? You bet!

We did a four-night stay at Marten River Lodge at the end of September. Tania and Peter are fabulous hosts and provided absolutely wonderful hospitality during our stay. Cabin #5 was warm and very cozy, even on a couple of chilly nights. Our bed was very comfortable and the cabin was spotless. Screened porches are a bonus, even though this time of year there were not many insects. Our boat was in excellent condition and Peter had it gassed and ready to go every morning. In the evening he had the campfire lit and ready for all to enjoy. Tania is lovely and checked with us regularly to see if we needed anything. The lodge was open and had a nice fireplace if you felt like bringing a drink and playing pool, reading or watching TV. We went fishing every day, but didn't catch much even though minnows and worms were provided as part of the package. We probably should have had Peter give us a guided fishing tour. Overall, it was an amazing and relaxing stay - just what we came for! We'll definitely return to Marten River Lodge.

My husband and I just returned from the Marten River Lodge and had an incredible fishing adventure. The owners, Peter and Tania, and their daughter, Meagan, are a wonderful, generous family--who will go out of their way to please you to ensure you have the best time. They couldn't have been nicer. Peter was our fishing guide one day and Meagan was our guide on another. Both were fantastic and helped us catch plenty of fish. The shore lunches were so delicious, as were all the breakfasts and dinners. We highly recommend the American Plan (food included) but you can do your own cooking if you want. The cabins are rustic but that's exactly what we were looking for, but they are well equipped. The lodge is warm and cozy and full of games, books and videos. We couldn't have had a better time and we highly recommend this fishing lodge, We will definitely be back. Thank you Peter, Tania and Meagan.
