Went with wife & other couple, food though expensive was brilliant. Our dog was charged at £15 but not allowed in pub. Wife injured arm, so before we went asked by telephone for a ground floor room and were told no problem and no extra charge. On returning in the post was an invoice charging £40 for this room and... We booked two rooms well in advance of our stay but became concerned when reading previous reviews, which were largely negative. There must have been a huge effort by the staff to improve on past comments. Food and service was excellent, room 12 (mentioned in previous review) was huge yet quaint with traditional decor and furnishings. I strongly feel that... More

Paid £110 for a ridiculously overpriced room. Everything about the room was shoddy. Paid for a superior room none of the furniture matched needed binoculars to see the telly it that small. Damp and mouldy plaster falling off the roof and later when getting into bed found the sheets were stained with blood (disgusting). The only slight saving grace from... More

While searching for vfm NYorks hotels for a short late-Spring break with my sons, location and food were the top priorities. The GnD hit the bullseye on both counts. Alison and David run a great hotel with a fabulous restaurant as the centrepiece. After long days cycling, hiking and mucking about on the coast it was a wonderful refuge where... More

Service of staff cannot be faulted, food was superb and generous portions. Location is ideal for exploring the surrounding area and the coast. However and I mean however, the room decore and size were deplorable.Reading in hindsight various other reviews I can only concur with the thoughts contained therin. Very small double room, ancient bed, small television perched on top... More

Another last minute trip, two night booking directly with the the pub. Were happy with the rate offered for bed/breakfast with a dinner meal allowance, which covered two courses. Too full to manage a dessert on both evenings anyway. We found the staff friendly and helpful.Room 5 was spacious above arch to car park. Would have preferred a shower, but managed... More

We were 2 couples with 2 dogs away for a 3 day break to walk the moors. On arrival it was obvious dogs were not welcome. After unpacking and meeting our friends in the bar, we were told we would have to move rooms. No help was offered with the move, and the 4 of us were given accommodation on... More

Stayed here 1 night on a trip to Flamingoland. Paid £130 for a Family Room and frankly it wasn't worth it. Room 19 was in a dated part of the property in need of decoration. Horrible sheets and blankets on very uncomfortable beds. Only terrestrial TV channels. No shower - just an attachment on bath taps with nowhere to hook... More
