We had a week-end stay over a very busy time, i.e. the olive festival. The room, service and food was very good. We really liked the fact that that non-guests were only allowed in the hotel for a booked lunch and dinner. This kept the hotel peaceful and an absolute pleasure to be at while the the small town itself... More

Passing this little town we decided to sleep over. We had a room inside the hotel with a 4 poster double bed, with white linen. The rooms are not very big but is comfortable equipped with a fridge and TV. The bathroom was spacious with a bath and a shower. We realised there was no kettle or coffee in the... More

Dear guest, Great to have a review on our hotel page from someone that just lives around the corner in beautiful Melkbosstrand. Sometimes people have the perception that The Royal is more a hotel for foreigners so great feed-back from locals is much appreciated. For more than 150 years the hotel has been catering for both national (65%) as international... More

Riebeek Kasteel is a small but quite buzzy town that's been given a new lease of life by the wine industry in the region that is causing a big stir. Lots of new boutique style shops, cafes, etc. The hotel is easily the biggest accommodation option around, the rest being mostly B&Bs and smaller guest houses, and I had assumed... More

Dear guest, Thank you for your review and we are glad you enjoyed your stay with us. Next time do try our breakfast options from our kitchen which are included in the rate. We have some nice options from your typical English to a lighter fare and our poached eggs with smoked salmon on Brioche with Truffle Cream is popular.... More

Sometimes you read other reviews and wonder if you actually stayed in the same hotel! This is the case for us at The Royal. We arrived early afternoon and inquired about 2 rooms....we were advised that there might be the possiblity of a reduced rate later in the day. We decided to have a drink on the veranda and just... The hotel is good and would have been rated 'Very Good' (four stars), but the staff lacked both hotel acumen and ultimately training. I felt like the management went on vacation and left the staff to fend for itself. The reception had a toddler on a blanket on the floor (hey, wait I like kids!) and after check-in, well, that... Dear guest, Thank you for your review and your feed-back. I apologize for your check in at reception. What you describe are definitely not our standards. There is no excuse as all our reception staff is trained to provide you with all the service/information you described in your review and therefore disciplinary action has been taken. The 4 year old... More

I had great expectations of this hotel, thinking it would be something extra special. And I really have no serious complaints, except for a disasterous breakfast. But I think after reviews I read I expected just a notch or two more elegance, quality and colonial charm. Lets say maybe just not a "smart" as I expected. But overall a lovely... More

Overall I was positively surprised by the hotel. The staff is flexible, we could have breakfast even after closing hours, which was a pleasant gesture, also buying items on request. Only minus I can really mention is the location of our room (14) which is next to the front. It can be noisy in the morning if you want to... More

Dear guest, Thank you for your nice review and thank you for pointing out where we can still improve on. It is correct that two of our rooms are on the stoep side of the hotel. Although it normally does not cause problems I can understand it can happen that noise will travel into the room, especially if one wants... More

Every few weeks we promise ourselves a weekend getaway. This small hotel in the lovely Swartland was worth the extra rands because the rooms are magical and you can laze around the front stoep with cocktails in hand to enjoy the sunset and watch the people go by. The food was okay, but the real treat is being able to... More
