I loved being in the hustle and bustle. I asked for a room overlooking the square and I actually got it. I had to wear earplugs because I had late nights and the drumming started at 8:30 every morning. I had a comfortable king-sized bed. The AC was quiet and the temperature of the room was perfect for me. The... More

Great location and an imposing building. But when we stayed the lift was broken - still was a week later - and the air con was not working in our room. As we overlooked the square and needed to keep the doors open for some air the noise was deafening. The food was fairly dismal - breakfast was awful so... More

We were only in Santiago de Cuba for 2 nights and we made the most of it. This hotel has friendly and helpful staff, has a great location and walking distance to majority of the tourist attractions. Has a nice roof top bar, with a live music from the afternoon. The roof top bar has a wonderful view of the... More

Vestiges of its former grandeur, alas now well past, but some very nice features, especially the broad roofed verandah right across the front of the hotel, overlooking the square. The food was so bad that we totally stopped eating, and I got a diabetic attack. But that's pretty standard throughout Cuba - you certainly don't go there expecting any culinary... More

Was in Casa Granda 1-16-13 departing 1-18-13. Wonderful location with a well-lit area for drinks right across from a large square. There is a Banco Nacional across the plaza from the hotel with murals on the walls inside the bank but, curiously, the guard would not allow photos of scenes of what was evidently expected from the Revolution:prosperity-equality-industry-agriculture. The elevator... More

Positives: Smack dab in the middle of the salsa son music scene in Santiago and the historic district. Good hot water flow in the shower. Clean linen. ESPN and CNN on tv. Negatives: Elevator rarely works, be prepared to walk 5 flight of stairs.Terrible food and restaurant service. Internet 1 computer rarely works.

The location of the hotel great, right across from a main square where there's a lot going on all day. The place has character, but it's definately showing its age. When we were there the elevator had been completely dismantled (50/50 chance it's working now) and there was no hot water. On the other hand, the views from the roof... More

After the revolution was won, this was the hotel where the worlds press reported their stories and pictures as Santiago De Cuba was the first public location where Castro stood before his people. The hotel itself has a charm but a clean and update would be most welcome. We stayed here during 'Carnival'' and had a great time. It's also... More

This is a nice hotel with character , located in the middle of the city. Very friendly staff. They have to work more on preserving better the building itself and on the cleanliness. We needed to change one of our rooms because it smelled bad.
