I live in Mazatlan and this trip north about an hour to a true sleepy fishing village for Gail's mosaic class was the perfect getaway. She picked us up in Maz and was the most accomodating hostess I have ever met! Her staff is helpful and prompt to assist. I would suggest bringing bug repellent for yourself. Gail even made... More

If you need to get away from it all, then head north 1 hour to the Las Rosa de las Barras. The sleepy bay is incredibly picturesque with a lighthouse at one end. Apparently it is safe for swimming but when we stayed for 2 nights it was cool and the seas where rough. Gail is incredibly hard working, having... More

Five gringas badly in need of some R&R arrive frazzled and exhausted in Mazatlan. We're picked up at the airport by the lovely Gail Blackburn, owner of La Rosa. From there on out, it's nothing but delightful. Food provided by the small restaurant attached to the resort by the fabulous Yudith, dishes done for us every day, massages and pedicures,... More

This hidden treasure is so amazing. The beach is absolutely gorgeous. The hospitality was the best and the food was outstanding! Fresh fish that comes in each day, it doesn't get any better! Great little Casitas that were so comfortable and peaceful. A wonderful place to hike, bird watch, seek out the petroglyphs close by or just relax and read.... More

Had a wonderful, relaxing week at La Rosa. All of the cabanas are unique, each carefully crafted from scratch by owner Gail. Gail has put her heart and soul into this place and it shows. Nothing fancy, but perfect if you want a nice relaxing vacation in a tiny fishing village with wonderfully friendly and welcoming locals. Every day we... More

While researching a driving trip around the USA & Mexico, I stumbled across the 'La Rosa' website, the place looked like the perfect 'off the beaten path' retreat. In fact it looked so good, we actually changed our itinerary to stay a few nights here, as it wasn't available on the original dates we wanted. (This was not an easy... More

We were able to stay 3 nights and enjoyed every minute. Each cabana is very unique with the sound of the ocean always near you. The food was fabulous and reasonable. Gail, the owner is very personable and quick to please you. It is a wonderful retreat and we cannot wait to return in the fall. The landscape is definitely... More

Gail Blackburn has created a special paradise in La Rosa. From her personal creations from rock and bamboo to the organic vegetables served from her garden to the jacuzzi under the stars and the roar of the ocean permeating your senses while you fall to sleep; it is a complete and inexpensive retreat from the ordinary. My husband and I... More

La Rosa de Las Barras is rural mexico. The ocean is at your door step. The smells and sounds of the ocean are the experience. The small town of dirt streets and small homes is clean, quiet and safe. The facilities of La Rosa are clean, functional and beautiful. The gardens are wonderful. Walk to a few small restuarants, buy... More

Our stay at La Rosa was a dream come true! The property is a lovely little oasis filled with coconut palms, some fruits trees and flowering bougainvilla. Almost everything was handmade ...the casitas, the furniture, mosaic tile art, blankets. We stayed in the Bamboo Casita and absolutely loved everything about it including the waterfall shower and the beautiful hand carved... More
