I am a solo female traveler and felt very safe and secure here. Lovely, clean, spacious room. Excellent value for the money in Merida. Close to the main plaza. Felt safe walking in the area at night. Enjoyed the dog and cat and conversations with Raul who speaks English perfectly and is a wealth of information about Merida. Would stay... More

Having read the reviews we decided that this was where we wanted to stay for our 5 nights in Merida. We booked in October for our trip in January to be sure of getting a room and our booking was confirmed. I emailed a few days before we arrived but was told that the guesthouse was full so they had... More

I had been seeing the reviews of many people, and I decided to give a visit to Las Arecas. Las Arecas is a family guest house, located in the heart of Merida, close to many parks, El Centro with all its shopping and excellent typical food! You are walking distance to everything, from little convenient stores to house exchanges, to... More

We stayed at Las Arecas for about a week and found the rooms to be very spacious, clean and comfortable. Our room sat behind the main courtyard and felt private and quiet as there was little to no noise from other guests or the street outside. The room almost felt like we were returning to our own little apartment each... More

Once again, we stayed with Mauro and Raul at Las Arecas in the heart of Merida, just steps from Parque Santiago and Parque Santa Lucia--where the shopping was terrific! Be sure to check out Coqui Coqui and the Chocolate Store (Mayan name begins with an "X"). The old casona is undergoing some rennovations, new paint and other upgrades. None of... More

I stayed at Las Arecas recently for 6 weeks and can highly recommend it. It is generally quiet and very close to the historical city center. Mauro and Raul are great hosts and willing to help with any problems (medical, dental, massage references, etc.) Raul speaks good English. The entire place is clean and organized. All of the rooms are... More

Stayed for a week and found Las Arecas to be comfortable, clean and convenient. At their bargain prices accomodations are plain, but commodious. Walked everywhere with main plaza (city center) only 5 or 6 blocks. Going the opposite direction, a neighborhood park surrounded by retail and restaurants provided a more relaxed environment. Common kitchen is available and central courtyard allows... More

I stayed 6 nights in Las Arecas and it was all pleasure. The Guest House has a very central location and even though quiet. But first of all it is a beautiful colonial house with a garden/patio full of plants, a welcoming host and a nice kitchen to sit and have chat in. A cat is on guard, if not... More

I stayed at Las Arecas for several nights and loved it. The colonial interior is truly impressive, and gives a real sense of history. It is very centrally located, but the cool, high-ceilinged interior rooms are a world away from the street outside. My room was spacious and clean, and free wifi and use of the kitchen made it very... More
