The Rendell Shea Manor is a Heritage Home located in the Historic East End of St. John's. This is one of the best areas downtown to walk the city. There are local cafés, craft stores, restaurants and local Pubs. We are within minutes walk of Signal Hill, The Rooms, The Battery, George Street and the Harbor front. Afternoon coffee and tea are available in our sunroom or on our covered deck. The Rendell Shea Home has retained most of it's original period character. It was the home of St. John's first Mayor, Mr. George Shea and his wife Margaret Rendell Shea. The home remained in the Shea family for more than 100 years. We are delighted to welcome you!
My husband and I stayed one night. We could walk to breakfast and George St. for shopping and dinner. The house is high on a hill so could be challenging for some. The room was large and adequate for our needs. The house itself is being restored but it didn't hamper our stay. The host left out tea buns, coffee and tea in the morning. Instructions were very clear and we had no problems. Would stay here again.

I was most impressed with how clean, yet homey, and historical this large well appointed multi level, home is. Many rooms to choose from and quiet. My Room was on the first floor and had the most spacious bathroom with a jet tub! Perfect after a day of hiking the harbouside coastal walk up to signal hill. You’re minutes from walking to all the amazing shops, and restaurants in St. John’s. Thank you Hosts do an amazing job of giving you information and updating their Facebook page for fun things to do.

We had an exceptional stay at the Rendell-Shea Manor in September 2019. It is a historic building with very tasteful furnishings. Our bedroom accommodated 3 perfectly with lots of space in the bedroom and bathroom. We enjoyed all of our accommodations in Newfoundland but this one was unique. It is walking distance from downtown. Although there was no breakfast included, they had coffee and delicious warm muffins in a lovely sitting room. The accommodations were exceptionally clean and the home was very quiet. Although it was a self check-in and out... everything was administered efficiently. Would highly recommend this place but it would not be appropriate for children.

Rendell Shea Manor was a great place, centrally located in St. John's. We had a very clean room with two beds and a huge private bath. The beds were very comfortable, the street very quiet. We used the paid parking pass without any trouble. The restaurant recommendations for breakfast were great and a 5 minute walk away. Snacks in the house were also a nice addition. We easily walked to the main streets of St. John's and enjoyed the view and harbour.

My husband and I recently stayed at Rendell Shea Manor for 3 nights and thoroughly enjoyed the ambiance of this guest house. The room was very clean, well appointed as were the main living areas. All day there is coffee, tea, infused water and baked goods available for the guests. While there isn’t a formal breakfast, freshly made muffins are provided for a quick bite in the morning. Earl is a wonderful host, and is full of knowledge and information about St. John’s and Newfoundland. The Manor is centrally situated in St.John’s and is within walking distance of most of the main attractions and many pubs/restaurants. This Guest house is definitely a must see!

Our first night in St John's was spent here in this delightful heritage house. We were warmly greeted and the muffins just hit the spot after touring the City. The rooms are well maintained and the original character of the house is still very evident. Original fire places, mouldings, and fixtures add to the warmth and charm of the place. Tea, coffee and fresh muffins are available throughout the day, which for travellers not on any proper schedule, is very welcome. Our room was comfortable. The location of the house is in easy walking distance of many local attractions, and if you are an architectural history buff, there are several mansions across the road beyond Bannerman Park.

We recently stayed a week at Rendell-Shea Manor, from Aug 1-7, 2019. This place is perfect for 3 couples, with private bedrooms with there own bathroom. I looked hard for a place that had the space and 3 full bathrooms. And this place didn't disappoint. Earl was great to deal with, aways quick to answer our questions. This unit is well equipped and had most everything we needed for a week at the festival. Ill definitely be contacting Earl again when we vacation back to St.Johns.

This historic house is located in the downtown part of St. John's. It's a challenge to get around this city due to convoluted roads and poor signage so it's a good bet to find a place to stay while you are exploring the downtown area and walk (though it's hilly). This hotel was nicely refurbished. Although it gave up formal hot breakfasts they have 24-7 coffee and water and serve home-made rolls much of the time. The place is a little "fussy" with various signs and the requirement to remove your shoes but without providing throw-away slippers. It was a little farm when we were there but the open window provided some ventilation. They have a jacuzzi bat in some of the rooms but have very limited hours for its use so don't pay extra for that unless you really want it. Helpful staff though they seem to service more than one house so it's not clear when they are present. If you have a car they do provide a temporary permit for on street parking but good luck finding a place.…

We are a small guesthouse and not a hotel. We like the difference of being a small historic property as opposed to the major hotel. We hope you did too. Thanks so much for your stay.

We spent a lovely 4 nights in the Mayor Shea room overlooking Cochran street. Lovely room, well appointed. Enjoyed the baking and coffee at breakfast and the fruit infused water was a great treat at the end of a walk. Wonderful friendly staff. The location is perfect for seeing all of the amazing sites downtown St John's has to offer. Street parking pass for a fee allowed parking in front of the manor each night. Glad to have a fan during the warm nights. We loved our stay here and will highly recommend this wonderful place.

Stayed in five different hotels on our trip, Rendell-Shea was by far the most welcoming. The Bannerman Park room was clean and comfortable. The history of the home was fascinating and made our two night stay feel like we were in a home away from home rather than a stock hotel room. The coffee/tea/water and baked goods were a lovely, tasty touch. We were without transportation so the great location within walking distance of many sights was key for us. Earl was welcoming and very helpful. We have recommended the place to friends and would stay here again ourselves.
