This is a lovely place to stay: clean, neat and filled with calvinian charm. The hospitality here is very good. We highly recommend it. It is the perfect place for a stopover on the way to Kalagadi Transfrontier Park.

These historic buildings have been restored to perfection, retaining all the old world character, along with modern conveniences and even DSTV. All rooms are different, and some are more like an olde worlde flatlet. I was honoured to be placed in the Bridal Suite, which was totally enchanting. All equipped with wonderful period furniture, or reproductions, and art treasures. A...

We have stayed at this B&B 4 times. We use Calvinia as our halfway point on our way to the Kalagadi Transfrontier Park. We always book "self catering" and have yet to be disappointed. The unit we always use is well above average in equipment and utensils. Spotlessly clean. I always try to have food prepared that can be heated...

Very basic accommodation but neat and clean with helpful management. Local SA dishes but unfortunately most are pre-cooked and warmed up. Accommodation in various houses/cottages with own kitchens etc. Could do with a pool to cool down
WE booked in the "Tuishuis" for our overnight stay on the way from Cape Town to the Augrabies. We were 3 adults (my husband and I and our eldest daughter)
And as I hoped it was really a night in a "museum", but absolutly positiv. There were no signs "don´t touch", so you can really feel the atmosphere in the...

Hantam Huis is not one hotel. It is a collection of houses administered by a single entity called Hantam Huis, which also has a central location with a nice restaurant and gift shop and semi-museum. The large two-story house in which we stayed was old but nice, with satisfactory facilities. It had 3 or 4 bedrooms but our group only...

Our group arrived after spending time in the desert and this presented us with authentic Cape Dutch homestead . It was a delightful overnight experience with a great dinner and breakfast. The room we occupied was furnished in tradional period fittings and furniture. Highly recommended for an extend stay
We were enroute from Cape Town to Augrabies and planned to stay over to break the journey into two reasonable parts. Calvinia was the chosen place.
Hantam Huis is a collection of fully refurbished and redecorated rooms that are an exquisite example of the good life of a bygone era. We stayed in the 'bridal room' with its four poster...

Calvinia is not one of the most exciting places but it was a necessary stop over on our way to Augrabies. We stayed at Hantam Huis in the Bridal Room, it was old world, comfortable, clean and with a modern bathroom. However, it wasn't "my cup of tea" as I prefer modern fixtures and furnishings. The B&B was quite pricey....
