A warm welcome from Mark and Judy was a promising beginning to our recent two night stay. Four of us on a cycle-tour really enjoyed genuine hospitality. Food was hearty and plentiful, Jail Ale flavoursome, accommodation just right. Breakfast was smashing-just dont' ask for beans with your egg! Couldn't fault this place.

Building is falling apart. The bar area is tatty and everything needs work, especially the porch where the rotten eaves let water drip onto unsuspecting patrons. We went for a meal on their fish and chip night (Friday) . I can't speak for the rest of their menu but this night the fish was wet inside the batter (frozen?) the chips... More

I recently spent 2 nights b+b at the Royal Oak in the beautiful village of Dunsford with my partner. From the moment we arrived to the minute we left Judy and Mark the owners afforded us with warm friendly service and nothing was too much trouble. The food was hearty and plentiful and the converted barn rooms cosy, perfect on... More

Tatty, unkempt, dusty and hair in the bed and shower. Beds comfy and had a good nights sleep. Shower had no pressure and the water came out as if it was a tap not a shower, and ran cold. Room way too small for 2 adults and 2 children. Breakfast consisted of cereals, toast, orange juice or milk and a full... More

A lovely village pub on the edge of Dartmoor with some lovely views & a menagerie of animals belonging to the landlord. NIce rooms in a converted stone barn that are brightly & freshly decorated. Warm & friendly hosts for whom nothing is too much trouble. They serve wonderful pub food - nothing pretentious just good wholesome grub - the... More

Me and my partner stayed here overnight, we received a warm welcome and was shown to our room by the landlord. The rooms are converted from an old stable and have some nice features such as exposed stonework. A short drive and we were in Exeter, had a few drinkies then headed back to the pub for a few more.... More

This pub has good food, good real ales, spirits and soft drinks are very over priced and you have to ask for lemon( which the landlord looks like he is constantly sucking on with his ridiculous facial expressions!!!) As this pub welcomes animals it has that very distinct smell of rancid fur and cats which wander over and walk over... More

Stayed here for a wedding - ideal as the pub is next to the church in this stunning village. Rooms are basic but comfortable and clean. The pub itself is very good with excellent meals, good beer and friendly locals. If you are looking for rooms in a pub at really very very good value for money then the Royal... More

This is simply a review of The Royal Oak as a pub. All I can say is: you must visit this place on a Tuesday or Friday and have the fish and chips. You will not be disappointed. They're the best i've ever had! The staff are lovely and the setting is beautiful. Highly recommended!

The system does not allow me to say when my last stay was (early 2009) but from 2006 through to late 2008 I stayed on a regular basis at the Royal Oak, Dunsford, on average about 10 nights a month. The accomodation is in an old farm building just beyond the back of the inn, which has a rear entrance.... More
