We spent 4 weeks in Brazil and Refugio da Ilha was by far not only the best part of our trip, but one of our best travel adventures ever!!! (I have been 35+ countries, so this is saying a lot). First, Leonardo was a fantastic, knowledgeable and friendly guide. He was amazing at spotting everything from Tapirs, Capybara, Caiman and... More

We really had no idea of what we would coming to, as there is no information in most of the guidebooks and the Refugio seems so hidden away. Luckily it was recommended to us by another ranch. It was the most beautiful place we have ever been to, like finding ourself in Paradise - the ecolodge is perfection - not... More

We spend 5 or 6 days there and we wish we could still be there. This is one of the few very authentic places to visit, where you do not feel like you are being 'processed' as a tourist. Everyday was totally different and fun, exciting. If you love nature and travel a bit off the beaten path this is for... More

We were a little bewildered by the reviews of tour companies in the Pantanal and chose, despite protestations from our wallets, to splurge at this wonderful establishment. From the moment we arrived everything was excellent. The food was phenomenal. The setting was tranquil. The accommodation was very good. However, the finest part was our guide - Sergio. He was a... Incredibly accommodating for a family (which in our case ranged from a 1yr old baby to 66yr old granny). It ticks a lot of boxes both as a wild life experience as well as a relaxing place to stay.Working in Pantanal and knowing many lodges this is the place we chose to bring our family. It is a very accessible... More

This was just an amazing stay - the family is exstremely kind, very relaxed and super knowledgable about the nature. This made our stay very down to earth, and we really felt at home, and the 5 days we spend there could easily have been much longer - we are for sure coming back!

It's a fantastic place to forget all problems! The Lodge is very comfortable and perfect to relax, but there are also nice tours into the nearly untouched Pantanal. We saw a lot of exotic animals, and it' s hugely impressive how many different birds there are! Another highlight: the food is typical from the region, very tasty and of very... More

The place is awesome, the people are friendly, the guides know everything and have infinit patience with kids. There are animals all around the lodge: caimans, parrots, capibara, otters, piranhhas! Highly suggested!

My mother and I visited Refugio da Ilha Ecolodge in June 2012. We chose to hire an English speaking guide (Sergio) and book a private car from Campo Grande to the lodge (700 reals round trip, ~3-4 hours travel time). We were overwhelmingly happy with the experience from start to finish. Although my mother's flight from the US was delayed,... More
