My husband and I stayed here in October 2012 and had a fantastic time. Although it seemed more like a house as opposed to a guesthouse when we first arrived, we found it to be a really welcoming and relaxed place. The furnishings may be outdated but it’s very comfortable and fit for purpose considering the low price. No lock... More

My boyfriend and I stayed one night at Tsunami Backpackers in September 2012 and had such a wonderful and welcoming experience, we would stay there again. The host, Wolf, was very accommodating and helpful throughout our entire stay. We arrived at the hostel late in the evening, filthy and cold from caving around Horne Lakes and Wolf had our clothes... We chose this place because of the good reviews here. I have stayed in many backpackers, but this was nothing like any hostel I've ever stayed at. When we arrived, we couldn't tell whether it was a hostel or an abandoned house. The garden is totally overgrown, the blinds were all closed and the back the house is full of... More

I came to this hostel a few nights ago with a friend and found the hostel perfect for our needs. It is a about 1.5 km from downtown on River Road in a very quiet neighborhood. Wolf, our host, is a very friendly and helpful person who even borrowed us his own hiking guide for the region and helped us... More

I went to Vancouver Island with a couple of international friends from the language school at the beginning of August in 2010. The house is really nice and it's situated next to the river where we spent a wonderful party night =) The owner of the hostel was nice and the next morning he even served us a breakfast for... More

We stayed at the Tsunami Backpackers for 3 nights and found it a very nice place to stay. It's a bit of a walk from the bus drop-off if you don't have a car, but considered the size of Port Alberni, it's quite close. Our host was great and helped us where he could (cardboard for hitchiking, where to spot... More

Recently myself and three travel partners stayed at this guest house for one night. We arrived late on a wet night and were immediately welcomed in by Wolf and encouraged to make ourselves at home. The house and furnishings are basic but provided everything we needed for a comfortable and affordable stay. Using Wolf's fresh out of the garden and... More

My kids are already begging to return. Wolf made our stay extraordinary with freshly picked plums upon our arrival and raspberries he let the kids help pick on our departure. Our host was warm and helpful; he even made coffee for us at 6:30am!

I stayed here 2 years back enroute to Tofino and this year as well, the Tsunami Backpackers guest house was my top choice. Reasons - 1) Best price. 2) Safe. 3) Well-kept 4) Homely atmosphere. 5) Good food - home baked bread is awesome (give 4 hours notice), home made jam and home grown fruits are lovely :) Staying in... This guesthouse is a very quiet place. Very hard to find from the road (we arrived by night), you're not sure you're at the right place until you meet the host ! Then, everything is really pleasant. The house itself is really cozy and clean. The breakfast is very cheap, it's good (try the home-made bread and jam !). And... More
