My husband and I stayed in one of the Exec. Suites for the Indulge Festival. There is no question that this place is overflowing with history and some of the "tatters and tares" add to the charm, however there are certain things one expects when staying at a Fairmont Property and this place lacked a number of those key things.... My husband and I stayed at this hotel for one night having stayed at a Fairmont hotel Quebec City which was great; we thought we would try the much talked about The Fairmont Algonquin. I love the history of the hotel and St Andrews is just gorgeous. I called up the hotel directly and asked for a price and availability.... More

We went the week before Christmas for some alone time and the hotel was pretty much empty! It felt like we had the whole place to ourselves.. It was very cozy and romantic with Christmas trees everywhere throughout the lobby and there were multiple fireplaces lit. If you are travelling in the cold seasons beware that some of the hotel... I've stayed at the Algonquin twice, and each time came away with a great experience. It is true that this is an old hotel (at least the original part). Some people seem to think that's a bad thing, but it's the entire reason I want to stay here. You can just envision what it would have been like to stay... More

I was skeptical because of some of the reviews that I read, but we were happy to find that this gem was a wonderful place to stay. We stayed in the "new" building and had the largest room you could imagine. It was well maintained and very comfortable with a peek view of the ocean. The heat/cool controls worked well... More

We spent a night at the Algonquin and enjoyed it but we were stumbling over eachother in the small room in the main old historic building. While I enjoy the history in the lobby, I should have taken the larger room with two queen beds in the Annex for $14 more. I thought it would be nice to be in... More

There was a lot of mixed reviews that I had read about the Fairmont before experiencing for myself at the end of September, so we didn't attend with the highest of expectations. But boy we were not let down in any way. Upon arrival we were greated by a piper. The lobby was elegant and spacious. We had a lunch... More

This place is a tough call. On one hand, the Algonquin is so steeped in character that when you step inside, you can feel the history. It has a beautiful lobby and grounds, and the staff exceedingly polite and friendly. However, for such a beautiful hotel, the room wasn't amazing. Could have used a coat of paint, and was kind... This is an older, resort type hotel, of the gilded age era I would think. Distinctive architecture, verandas, arched windows. Lovely, well maintained gardens & grounds. Accomodating, helpful staff. We paid $118 plus Canada's ridiculously high tax (socialized medicine, anyone ?) for a queen room. Room was graciously decorated, wood floor, flat screen tv, Keurig coffemaker, nice furniture. Bathrrom was... More

the hotel was beautiful...we ate at the pub downstairs as we waited to long to eat. the food was quite good. the room we had was not airconditioned so it was very hot. no view to speak of...just the parking lot...our friends room had a nice view though. the breakfast buffet was delicious. went whale watching on the zodiac...lots of...
