I got here late evening in the pouring rain with a car about to breakdown. The owner, Matthew couldn't have been more helpful, offering this wet and weary traveller a nice warm, welcoming place to stay at a very reasonable price. On top of that, when on returning home I discovered that I'd left an item behind, Matthew kindly offered to post it home for me! I cannot rate Penzance Backpackers highly enough, and will certainly be returning there on my next visit to lovely Penzance.

Excellent website convinced us to stay and we weren’t disappointed. Large terraced house near the train station. We had a short walk from the Scillonian and were welcomed and shown round the hostel, we would have liked to stay longer but ferries and trains limited our time. Nicely decorated with good rooms, helpful staff made it a welcoming place. My wife had a broken arm and they were very concerned about that she would be ok, nice touch. Unfortunately we had to leave early for the 6.30 train so apologies for disturbing people and not stripping the bed

Clean and tidy place close to the promenade. Well managed but busy at times. The owner/manager lives in the house with his family. He is very friendly, helpful and on top of things. The communal kitchen, restrooms and (hot) showers are in excellent shape. Storage area for bicycles and surfboards. I had a great stay.

I stayed three nights here, good stay. Everything is kept clean and very well looked after, the kitchen is very well stocked and hostel is on a quiet street but close to bus stops, an easy walk into town or just a stroll to the sea side. The owner is friendly and can offer good suggestions if you have not set any plans once arrived.

We have been coming to the Backpackers for years, first as a couple, now with our little daughter. From the very first day we felt we very much at home in the hostel. Mat is a great host, always super helpful and keeps the place spotless clean. The kitchen is a well equipped place to prepare your breakfast but also to do some cooking in the evenings. Sometimes it can get busy there, but every summer we met such an interesting mix of people and enjoy chatting in the kitchen or in the comfy lounge. Some of them we meet every summer again. The Backpackers is situated on a beautiful, quiet street with lots of big trees. A bus stop (for the Atlantic coaster) is just down the road, 5 meters from the bus stop you get to the promenade. On the promenade you can easily walk to Newlyn, or in the other direction to the train and bus station. Close by is also the great Penlee Park, a nice place for a picnic and for some time at the playground, but also an option to get quickly into the town center through the shady park on a hot day. The closest supermarket is about 10 minutes walk, down Alexandra Road until the promenade and then right. A launderette is also down by the promenade, on the left side. We can not wait to be back this summer. :-)

On arrival , friendly rooms clean but bit cramped ,at 12.30 am we let a Chinese female guest in who had arrived late ,the hostel warden attempted to throw her out into the night on her own ,outrageous ! Whatever his reasons which has might have had weight , it is unacceptable to send someone out Into the night ,a young lady with limited English and alone ,it caused un unresolved argument that night and in the morning with no outcome . We let her in and she slept in the lounge but was gone in the morning . For this reason alone we will not be staying here again and will not recommend it further

I stayed at the Backpackers Blue Dolphin hostel from 18th Monday June to Wednesday morning 20th June 2018. It was great and very cosy, excellent value for the price of the bed and stay over night. The host Matthew and was very welcoming and helpful. The room I shared in the womens 7 bed room was very clean with a toilet and show unsuite. Kitchen very clean and a good system in storing your food in the cupboards in personal labelled tubs. I very impressed. I would recommend the hostel to any one. Thank you Blue Dolphin Penzance

Top point of this hostel is that it's in a nice quiet part of town, even on Mazey Day which was most surprising. The free WiFi was also fantastic it must be said. The location did mean it was a lot further from the railway station than expected, making it necessary for taxi journeys. Even though me and my friend had a private twin room booked, it was bunk beds and I really don't like them. The bathrooms are of course the shared variety, and we didn't think much of them. The lack of real hot water supply in the showers put us off even trying to use them too. The kitchen was good though and we took advantage of filling bottles with water before leaving. Top tip though, don't try use taxis on Sunday mornings for trains as you will find them in extremely short supply!

Great hostel and great host. Rooms and common areas are unbelievably clean and cozy; this makes all guests be clean and tidy as well. We got so many good advices from the host: if we had more time in Cornwall, we would have definitely stayed longer. Highly recommended.
