We took my parents down last week and spent a few days at the Grove. As ever the staff were really welcoming and caring. Has to be the best place to stay in Bournemouth. The rooms are very well appointed with everything you need. The meals are excellant.

I stayed at The Grove last month to meet people that I have met via MacMillian chat. I cannot say enough good things about The Grove. The staff was fantastic, the hotel was gorgeous, comfortable, and the food was out of this world good. I am so pleased there is a hotel like this and I can't thank the staff... More

My wife and I stayed at The Grove for 3 very relaxing nights. It usually takes a few days to settle in, but with the pleasant and helpful staff this was achieved very quickly. The rooms were spotlessly clean as were en-suite facilities with all contemporary conveniences. The food was typical British cuisine and served at convenient times. General areas... More

My wife and I stayed for a long weekend and met up with friends from the Macmillan Community chatroom. We had a wonderful time and the staff were so helpful and understand the needs of cancer patients. The bedrooms were spotless and the meals absolutely superb. We had a great break and will be coming back very soon.

A party of us went to this Hotel the other day for lunch in order to support and find out more about what they do. This is a wonderful haven for those who need that extra help and their carers to have a peaceful stay with great food and amazing staff. It is somewhere that we should all try to... More

We had a room set aside for us to meet up with friends, most of whom were staying and others popped in to join us for lunch. The staff could not be more helpful, friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The rooms were extremely comfortable and the food truly excellent. Will definitely be going again!! A huge thank you... Shaun and I would like to say thank you to ALL the staff at The Grove. We could not find a single fault with either the hotel, food or staff. Even the weather decided to behave itself! It was our first time at The Grove and I myself was a bit apprehensive about my surroundings but within 24 hours of... More

We have stayed at The Albany Lodge many times before but this was our first stay at The Grove this weekend. We have always found the staff really helpful and friendly, nothing is too much trouble, really did not want to come home! We were really impressed with the standard of the hotel and it is very well laid out.... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Grove is a very special place, it is an hotel that provides holidays for people with cancer or life threatening/limiting illnesses nationwide. Guests can come with their families, friends, carers or alone if they wish. Everyone is welcome at The Grove, it has a family atmosphere and guests often become friends of the hotel. It is a newly refurbished hotel owned by Macmillan Caring Locally (formerly Macmillan Cancer Trust) which opened in Bournemouth June 2011. The hotel might be new but the idea and what it provides for guests are not. In 1985 the consultant at the Macmillan Unit Christchurch and the first secretary of the Trust, the late Charles Hall sent some patients for a short respite holiday to a general hotel in nearby Swanage. On their return the positive benefits of that holiday were obvious for all to see, and the patients talked about their experience for weeks after. The effect on these few patients was the inspiration for The Trust to open a specialist hotel which catered exclusively for people with cancer (now including life limiting/threatening). Albany Lodge was purchased and opened for guests in August 1986.The inspiration and philosophy of Albany Lodge is with us still, but has now transferred to The Grove Bournemouth, along with all the staff who worked at Albany Lodge. The staff members have increased, but under the guidance of Brenden Howard and his management team, the same friendly helpful manner, where nothing is too much trouble still exists. The chefs work extremely hard to provide appetising, balanced and nutritional meals which are served in the lovely Garden Restaurant. Guests who have particular dietary needs are met, if known in advance. There is also a qualified nurse on duty 24/7 for advice and support, or to assist in an emergency situation should one arise. ... more   less
