The location of this pub is excellent - only 10 minutes walk from the city centre and/ or railway station in a very attractive and characterful setting. The duty manager was friendly and helpful and the room spacious, warm and comfortable - and, despite being a popular local pub, quiet! Shower room is small but well equipped. Best of all... More

Very friendly pub with nice resturant and good food. Our room (4) was pleasant with good bathroom. My fears about parking turned out to unfounded as we parked outside pub and used residents permit supplied by pub. Nice 10min walk by stream/river into centre of Winchester. More

Summary: The King Alfred is a perfect choice for accommodation in Winchester! It's on a quiet residential street, a very pleasant 10 minute walk to the centre. We will most definitely return to the King Alfred for our future visits to Winchester. Background: We visited Winchester for two days. We chose to stay at the King Alfred based on previous... More

This was in an excellent position for visiting Winchester, only a short walk to the town centre. The room we had was perfect, no complaints at all. Staff were all very friendly. We did not have an evening meal here but breakfast was very good. We would definitely stay here again. More

Lovely, welcoming place to stay. I had never been to Winchester before and picked The King Alfred solely down to the reviews on here. Was not disappointed. Immaculate, comfortable, friendly and fab food. Planning to return early next year. More

Not far from the city centre is this well presented, well staffed and welcoming pub/hostelrie. The room (3) was warm not stuff, very quiet, with beautiful furnishings, it was spacious and the lovely touches of stemmed glasses, nice coffee, expensive loo roll and a magnificent shower were unexpected and welcome. The restaurant downstairs was set apart from the warm bustle... More

I dine here quite regularly and the food is beyond reproach. The staff are always nice and although it is an old fashioned pub, the decor should not be updated to a monstrous new look. I hesitate to write this review in case it results a massive increase in clientel thus crowding me and my guests out !!! The baskets... More

We had the great good fortune to see the wonderful Laura Marling play at Winchester Cathedral a couple of weekends ago. As Winchester is such a lovely spot, with plenty of good places to go for a Sunday stroll, we decided to make a mini break of it and find a B&B for the Saturday night. After a bit of... More

What a wonderful place to stay & dine. A really lovely room (4) with everything you could possibly want including an excellent shower & really comfy bed. Beautifully decorated, plenty of storage, light & airy. Situated in a residential area about a 10 minute walk into the centre. Very friendly staff (Ruth & evening bar staff), tasty breakfast, friendly manager... More
