With style and comfort coupled with convenience, this hotel set in the very centre of historic Tunbridge Wells is positioned on the edge of the rural common. The hotel was built as a residence in the Victorian era and became one of the town's leading hotels in the 1920s. Set on the edge of the Tunbridge Wells common, it is only 2 minutes stroll from the shops, restaurants, cafes and theatres.
This is a beautiful building and the room we have (36) is clean and tidy, the check in was easy and the staff friendly. When asking for more pillows, this was done immediately. However, none of the furniture in the room matches and the bed was incredibly soft. The complementary shower gel, was just 2 sachets, and there was no hand soap. Although, the included free car park and full breakfast was a brilliant plus. As well as the central location, being just a few minutes from the centre of the town. All in all this was a good visit.

Lovely room for a budget hotel, comfortable, clean with comfy bed, nice bathroom, we were in the annexe building in a room with a self contained kitchenette which we weren't expecting. Nice surprise. Close to town centre for our event and breakfast included. We'll be back another time.

Friendly centrally located old fashioned small hotel, clean, comfortable and good value. Good car park but book ahead in busy periods. The full English breakfast is very good quality and highly recommended.

My wife and I stayed for 2 nights b+b at the Russell Hotel Friday 8th to Sunday 10th September primarily to see one old friend and celebrate with another her birthday. We wanted something central which this Hotel is suited but on a very noisy rode. The first room we were show was at the back of the hotel to avoid the noise but the two beds were very soft. We then were moved to room 47 which is on the front and with the weather being so hot we needed the windows open and so got the full noise. Room was OK but very dated and shower was adequate. Breakfast was good with a very good cooked breakfast and freshly made cafetiere coffee. The bar sold small 187 ml bottles of wine and tanglefoot bottled beer. The scond night we were woken by staff saying there was a fire alarm with the warning light from our room! There was no fire and we were woken up just before 5 am! The staff were helpful. I think the owners need to spend a few thousand pounds to update and improve the hotel.…

Stayed here for a week at the beginning of September 2023 as a family of 4 while we waited to move in to our house. Yes, it's not modernized, there are relics aplenty, but it is clean and comfortable. The staff were great, the breakfast too. For the price point, it's location - center of town and on the common, I'd recommend, and I'd stay again.

Pros: friendly staff, OK breakfast, room was clean, bed comfortable, free parking and close location to city center. Cons: old hotel, decorations from the 70s, fairly loud inhabitants [tradesmen clumping down the stairs at 5:30 in the morning] Takeaway: perfectly fine for one night stay if you’re traveling through, don’t expect too much, check prices (we paid too much)

Hotel very tired and dated, apparently rooms being updated! Room 47 not one of them. Mattress not great! Shower adequate. Sheets and towels clean. Staff amazing, breakfast home cooked and lovely. Convenient to town. Car park holds about 8 cars, first come first serve.

On arrival I was told I had to pay extra for my son. I queried this and was told children are classed as adults. So just be aware when booking in! I have also noticed non-positive reviews (including mine!) are not published on their website which is a bit naughty. There is no parking for disabled customers, it's a strictly first come first served. I did ask beforehand but was told to take my chances. Was a rather anxious journey hoping for a parking spot!
