Just stayed at this charming B&B from Friday to Monday (May Bank Holiday 2013). Very comfortable bed and a great breakfast - The locally sourced Bacon and Black Pudding in particular - lovely croissant and home made preserves, quality coffee and well run by a nice and very hospitable couple. The simple fact here is that the Lake District and, more specifically, Ambleside, is expensive. Although reasonably priced versus some of the other b n bs the reality here is that the building looks a bit tired and the rooms are very small. That aside, the design and fittings are very comfortable, the location excellent, and the parking is handy.... More

Booked the Rothay House late through booking.com and were well pleased with our choice. Other places were twice the price and i doubt they would come close in the hospitality class. We had a 2 night stay here in early November but whilst the weather wasn't too kind the stay at Rothay House was pleasant. Nice hosts, nicely furnished room and good breakfast. Ambleside is a little quiet out of season but plenty of places to eat in the evenings.

Once again we had a fabulous stay with Darren and Debra. The room was extremely clean, the breakfast choices and quality just fantastic and Rothay House is perfectly situated near the centre of Ambleside with free car parking too.
