We stayed for two nights, booking a feature room. The hotel is in a great position on the main road about 5-10 minutes walk from the centre of Grasmere village and a 15 minute walk from Dove Cottage and the Wordsworth Museum. We had booked the room on a half price offer – the normal B&B rate for our room... More

Located near Grasmere with just a short walk into the town. Classy old hotel. Rooms were fine, clean and welcoming but on the small side. The bathroom had been refurbished with some nice touches including both a heated towel rack and heated mirror so it wouldn't fog up. The food was good, particularly the lamb stew. If the weather is... More

Just returned from a 5 night stay for a walking holiday and found the hotel to be as friendly & hospitable as ever .We ate in every night and one night we ate in the bar just to try the different menu. All the food was excellent including the breakfasts that offer the best black pudding I have ever tasted.... More

The staff were very cheerful and personable, even though the hotel was busy. There was a relaxed atmosphere, the food was very good, and the bed was large and extremely comfortable. An excellent springboard for exploring Grasmere village and the surrounding local charms.

We stayed at this hotel in April for 2 nights. It was my wife’s Birthday. We were initially shown one of the rooms at the back of the hotel which had not been renovated - very poor - horrid shower head, mould around windows, etc. We asked reception if any other rooms were available which there was and we were... I stayed at this hotel recently with my husband. The hotel is okay inside and the location is great for it's views. On arrival we were asked for our credit card. Neither my husband or I own one, so we gave the receptionist our debit card. She told us that they only accept credit cards and if we wanted anything... More

We stayed here for two nights. The location is great with absolutely fabulous views from our room and from the beer garden. The staff were all friendly and helpful but it was unusual on check in to be asked "security" questions - we were asked to confirm address and telephone number as well as name. Our room was OK. Comfy... More

After a lengthy break from staying at the Swan due to other local hotels providing an all round better service and value we decided to try again. With this hotel situated in a superb position it seemed churlish not to check if there had been any improvements. No hotel is ever perfect but the Swan was heading in that direction... More

It was one of those pubs that looked great from the outside, and delivered inside too - warming fire, local ales on tap, low beams and comfy chairs. Had a lovely ham terrine and piccalilli starter, but went for the pheasant as a main - I know it's a game bird and can be a bit varied, but there really... More
