Jane is the perfect hostess! so warm, helpful and caring! The purple room is gorgeous, the breakfast is delicious, the B&B is located in a quiet lovely neighborhood, just 11 minutes away by train from the london victoria station! I wish we could stay longer :)

We arrived at Lilac Door to finish out the end of our 12 day anniversary trip and as such were already pretty tired. Having come straight from an overnight train, we got to Jane's about 3 hours before check in to drop off our bags, but she had laid out breakfast for us and had decided to quickly turn around... The Lilac Door is located in the West Dulwich neighborhood, right off the Victoria Tube stop. While it's not in the heart of the city, it's not far and incredibly easy to get to. The rooms are spotless, the beds are so comfortable, she provides yummy smelling toiletries, an in-room tea kettle with tea and coffee and the yummiest breakfast... More

I trusted my cousin with this one, him doing the reservations. Jane was a most welcoming host, and very attentive to details: how to lock the door, sign in to let her know we're home for the night, welcoming cookies, chocolate bar on our pillows, fresh fruit in the morning, tea at the ready and basically everything you need for... I have stayed in a number of b&bs in my time and I have to say the breakfasts that Jane prepares at the Lilac Door are really are up there with the best of them. I don't know about you but the phrase 'continental breakfast' conjures up for me the disheartening image of a bowl of cornflakes and a carton... More

My fiancé and I met up in London on his way back from working overseas for a month. The Lilac Door is a quick train ride from central London...and staying in Dulwich was much quieter & more comfortable than a hotel room would have been. The B&B is a quick 15 minute walk into the village, where there are plenty... More

Living in West Sussex but working long hours in London two days a week I needed convenient, comfortable accomodation to avoid a long commute. I found The Lilac Door more than three years ago and it became my second home. There really can be no B&B like it. The superlatives used in the other reviews are fully justified and I... More

We have stayed here several times since my last review and it just gets better and better. Jane is the most hospitable and welcoming 'landlady' and always goes to great lengths to make sure we have all we need for a comfortable stay. Looking at the reviews she has had, we are 98% unanimous in giving her full marks and... More

We stayed at the Lilac Door last weekend while visiting our niece in Herne Hill. It must be the best B&B in the London area. Will definitely stay again next time we visit. The owner was absolutely delightful and made us very, very welcome. The B&B itself was beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean. Breakfast was to die for! Highly recommended.... More

It’s always a challenge to find affordable accommodation for a family of four in Europe that is clean, comfortable and convenient to all of the major tourist attractions. And we found all of that - and more - at The Lilac Door. Surprisingly modern (given its Victorian exterior) and situated on a quiet tree-lined street in suburban West Dulwich, this... More
