I wonder whether these people even understand the power of sites like this: It really isn't good enough to charge the amount requested for such a basic service. When a laminated request that sanitary products etc are not put down the loo but placed in a bin, should there not be a bin in the en suite, not the only... More

The place has had a complete overhaul by the sounds of the last reviews, brand new carpets, brand new bathroom very clean and tidy. I have stayed in a few rooms and it is the same through out. Good value for money

This was my second trip to the 5 Lions in York, my first experience left a little to be desired, but I bit the bullet and decided to stop again for a Stag do I was organising, after all we weren't planning on stopping in the rooms for long, and wanted somewhere relatively cheap. On my first trip, the Five... More

Only popped in here after having dinner down the road as we could hear pretty loud live music blaring out of the place. It's a no frills pub with an interesting barmaid who (if taken with a pinch of salt) is pretty funny mad generally harmless. Lighten up people. Cheap ale. Good crack

Where to start....... This is the first time I have ever slept fully clothed in a room, No heating on. I did tell the landlord to what he replied "its on a timer" it was freezing, in fact that cool you could see your breath every time you breathed out. Even the landlord said how cold it was upstairs in... More

My partner and i recently stayed at the Five Lions pub in Walmgate and we were slightly worried about what we would find after reading some of the reviews however we were pleasently suprised. The car park was quite difficult to find at first but we called the pub and a member of staff gave us directions which was very... More

I should have known when this place had rooms and everywhere else in York was full for for the Xmas market, there was a reason. Room 7 has the worst bed I have ever NOT slept in. The mattress is older then the pub!! Room was basic and cold. £75.00 isn't that cheap for 1 night with no breakfast. The... More

We were greeted by a rude barmaid who looked us up and down before telling us bluntly that our room 'isn't ready yet' and there is nowhere to leave our bags beforehand. She certainly was not interested in making us feel welcome. Our room was small and dirty with stains on the carpet and wall. The carpet hadn't been vacuumed... More

Just returned from a one night break at the Five Lions in York. As 3 girls aged between 22 and 24 we were only looking for somewhere with a central location at a reasonable price. This is exactly what we got. When we arrived we were shown to our room by a lady who obviously hadnt been on a customer... More
