We had Sunday lunch here on our way to stay at the lodges at Slaley Hall. The pub looked inviting from outside, however we were disappointed with the roast. It was bland and the meat looked pre-cooked with the veg & pots warm instead of hot. However, as it was only £7 a head you get what you pay for.... More

Six of us ate here twice while staying at Slaley Hall. The first night was Steak Night. A good deal, though two of the three who chose the steak felt it was over cooked. You certainly don't need a starter as well as a main! Venison, calves liver and chicken were all excellent. Wine was very good and reasonably priced.... More

We were welcomed in to the pub by a lovely, friendly barmaid/waitress and we ordered drinks. We looked at the menu which looked scummy and decided on fish and chips. After a decent wait to whet our appetites, out came 2 rather large battered fish with chips, mushy peas and tartar sauce. It certainly looked value for money, then came... More

We went to the travellers rest whilst staying at Slaley Hall where we were very disappointed at the limited menu. We wanted some good home cooked food and Slaley didn't offer this. The Travellers was warm and welcoming; the atmosphere was really convivial but best of all the menu was mouthwatering. I settled for garlic mushrooms followed by amazing mince... More

I booked on Thursday for a Friday Night stay via laterooms.com I do this a lot because of the nature of my job and have been met with varying qualities of accommodation. I have to say that the Travellers' Rest was excellent. Really friendly and helpful staff. My room was pristine. It was warm, cosy & looked freshly decorated. The... More

We stayed for one night following a day at Hexham Races. Our room was ideal, warm and extremely clean with a lovely en-suite bathroom. Our breakfast the following morning set us up for the day, it was magnificent. We didn`t eat in the restaurant the previous evening having had a meal at the races. However, the meals looked huge and... More

Do not expect to be able to eat all your main course if you have a starter first - portion sizes are very generous. Our waitress was very sweet and courteous but we did have to wait quite a while for the meal to arrive. You get a hearty, home-cooked plateful; nothing nouvelle cuisine about this! My husband approved of... More

I have been here once before with friends and kids and had a lovely time. I don't know if it has changed hands since then. My mum, 2 year old daughter and I met up for some lunch and a bite to eat. It wasn't busy at all. The weather wasn't very sunny so we sat in for our food... More

Thank you for your visit Although your review is somewhat exaggerated, your comments have been taken on board and procedures have been put in place regarding the beer garden. We remain a child friendly and dog friendly country pub and have recently been awarded a 5 star hygiene rating from enviromental health which we work hard to achieve and are... More

We stayed for one night only and arrived through flooded lanes on the night of the great storm. Warm welcome from mine hosts behind the bar where three decent local real ales were on offer -two from Allendale over the hill and a fine pale bitter from Washington (Frank's?). Very nice room, quiet (number 3) with views over the fields... More
