I enjoyed my 2 night stay at Channings. It is not as grand from the outside as you may think looking at their website. However this is a very reasonably priced hotel fairly central for the City Centre. It is a good 10 minutes walk from the hotel to Princess Street and fairly hilly in parts. It is certainly in a quiet... More

We stayed at the Channings Hotel for three nights in early April. It should have been three nights in early January but postponement was inevitable – medical things! I mention this only because Channings’ management was extremely understanding about changing a booking that, at least in theory, could not be changed. For that, we were extremely grateful. Channings Hotel is... More

Many thanks to this guest for their overwhelmingly positive review and I am glad they finally managed to make it us for a break. I am sorry to read that the dinner was not up to our usual standards and will investigate as to why this was the case, but I am heartened to learn that our unfailingly friendly staff... More

We stayed here in April 2012 for 4 days. It's a four star and feels it. Staff very nice.breakfast was the real deal trad fare. Proper black pudding. The restaurant for a dinner was a bit bland and the place a little old fashioned but nice. The town is around 20 mins away and this place is well hidden so... More

We stayed at Channings for two nights the end of April. The hotel was beautiful and our room was well decorated, quiet, comfortable and had the largest hotel bathroom we have ever seen. The location gives you a neighborhood feel - away from the hustle and bustle of the city, yet about a 20 minute walk (or quick cab ride)... More

Channings, once the home of Sir Ernest Shackelton, came highly recommended in the travel literature and did not disappoint. The location was a peaceful change from the hustle and bustle of Princes Street and the Royal Mile, but an easy walk to those key Edinburgh destinations. Our room, though small, was beautifully appointed -- the bath was particularly comfortable! The... More

The moment we arrived at Channings, we were warmly welcomed by Scott. After checking us in, took our bags to our room and told us to come back to the desk when we were ready to discuss our stay in Edinburgh. After settling in, we headed back downstairs, where Scott spent at least 20 minutes with us sharing recommendations for... More

This was our second visit to the hotel and it was every bit as enjoyable as the first. The facilities are all excellent but it is the staff who really make this hotel - nothing is too much trouble. The walk to Princes Street is a ten minute stroll and it is actually nice to be able to retreat from... More

I like this hotel lots and have always enjoyed my stay here. I have been using this hotel on business for 10 years and have also taken the family on one occasion. The staff are very friendly and I love the rooms, the decor is great and the beds are fantastic. I have only used the restaurant for breakfast recently... More

Everything about this hotel made me want to return with my partner: warm welcome, stylish and comfortable interiors and spotlessly clean. My stay was very comfortable, and if you want a relaxed hotel with lots of character and professionally run then I would recommend this unreservedly.

As frequent travellers we have stayed in many hotels across the UK and this is a great example of what a hotel represents, friendly, accommodating, clean, location perfect, comfortable surroundings and very helpful in everyway. The bed and pillows made sleeping like a baby easy. The view across the gardens are beautiful, the sound of birds tweeting is charming (not... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Channings in Edinburgh is an informal, relaxed hotel with a very friendly approach. It occupies five Edwardian townhouses in Stockbridge, one of Edinburgh's most popular 'urban villages'. To suit its location slightly away from the city centre, Channings is a wonderfully quirky property which feels a bit like a Scottish country home, full of charming Victorian paintings, prints, books, furniture and memorabilia that owner Peter Taylor has collected over the years. ... more   less
